Next seasons realistic aim

To copy Ipswich.
I genuinely think we do this if we have half the injuries of this season.

We're such a streaky side and if we go on a run like this one then we can really get up a head of steam.

Also, now most of the squad is settled we're in a position to add quality - either through a +5m purchase or from the loan market.

Has got to be automatics and title challenge I'm expecting a big recruitment drive this summer as we have built up alot of FFP headroom with big sales over last few seasons and minimal spend. So next season has gotta be the hear we go for it especially looking at the league being potentially alot weaker than season has. We just need a few star dust signings

To have a better start than the two previous seasons , which involves winning a few games and being in the top eight of the table and at worst a handful of points of the top come the end of September. Then from there let's see what happens.

To copy Ipswich.
Not so sure this is wise.

Looking at their data, they have massively overachieved on their expected data.

They have cashed in on a huge slice of positive variance this season.

So to copy Ipswich, means, we would need a huge slice of 'luck' to go our way, just as they have had this season.

Whereas, Leeds and Leicester are in the top 2 and are expected to be up there, looking at data and how they've performed throughout the season.

Granted you need some sort of luck to get into the top 2 and gain promotion - with results, injuries, 50/50 decisions, etc....but the sheer amount of 'luck' Ipswich have had this season is staggering and I don't believe it's sustainable as a model.

Automatics, but it'll be tough if Burnley and Luton come back down with Sheff Utd. I'd expect at least one of those teams to go straight back up again.

I don't see any team being stronger than us.
I hope the 4-2-3-1 tactic will be used throughout next season.
Now I have full confidence. Ask for more strikers or call Sonny up.
I want a good pre-season and keep our stars.
And then renew the contract with Carrick.

Feel like I have no wind in my sails with the Boro atm.
First time I can honestly say that I don't know and I'm not excited about the coming season. I have renewed but I'm not expecting anything special to happen.
We sold two players who may arguably have given us a chance this season to make the play offs.
So looking at how we operate now, next season, I would imagine if anybody comes in for any of our players in the summer or January, Flossy will sell them.

I think the manager has worked miracles, with the sale of players and not really getting decent replacements in for for them, especially with what is considered our best players out injured most of the season.

I mean, its debatable if Aziz is as good as Crooks, I preferred Crooks tbh, you could say we got a younger model with Aziz and with more potential(we will see) but we still have a bloke 35 playing for us, so the age thing doesn't stack up.

So I think there was one eye on developing Aziz and flog him if he shows potential. Perhaps I find it hard to come to terms with flogging players regardless of our league situation. Would he have done it if we were fighting relegation? ....Yes I think he would have.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't at least finish top 6 next season. Automatics depends on whether our injury problems are endemic or whether it's a long term problem...and of course how recruitment and squad retention goes over the summer.

I've said from the start of Carrick's tenure it's probably a 3-year cycle, not including last season (i.e. Promotion in 2026).

It massively correlates to spend though, so if we have funds available in the summer 10-15m say, I'd expect the objective is for us to challenge, but probably settle for playoffs. Following season, and subsequent spending, should see us sustain a challenge for top 2.

If we lose assets in the summer and don't invest at least £10m, it's more likely to be any improvement on this season.

We can aim for the automatics but I think with a few good signings and keeping Lath fit all season the playoffs are very achievable.

The key to this though would be to avoid a dreadful start to the season like this time. Try and get business done early and get the team settled for the start.

Surely every season the target is promoted by any means? We’re Middlesbrough after all.

I think we’ll have money to spend based on activity over the last few seasons and the Morgan rogers sale hopefully means we can at least hold out for big fees is someone wants Hackney or lath. Hopefully the club have learned that loans aren’t all bad and we should get good players in whenever possible while also signing the best players we can for decent deals - combo of the 22/33 approach and this seasons version.

We need to sort the full backs out; are engel and bangura promotion quality? Is smith going to be the same player, can we get ayling etc. if Rvb stays and Clark is fit for most of the seasons that’s a solid pair with fry and Lenihan.

I would be very disappointed if Carrick and the senior management team don't have a plan aiming for automatic. You always need a bit of luck to get automatic from this league but they should be building their plans to achieve promotion and the only way to guarantee that is by finishing top 2. If we keep most of our best players, do our business early and steer clear of too many injuries there's no reason why we shouldn't be as strong as any of the teams currently in the Championship

The season ticket renewal prices being the most expensive in the league means that anything other than challenging for the automatics is taking the ****. Last season we had the same and were let down very badly by the recruitment team. If they don't improve this year and we have another bunch of projects with little top of the championship quality then it'll be another "transitional" season that amounts to nothing.

I think we need to match Carrick’s ambition and spend a few pennies this summer.
We must have a few in the coffers, following the sales of Tav, Spence, Akpom, Rogers for approx £40 million over the past two years.
We really aren’t far away from a very good starting 11, if not squad. I’ve no doubt we’d have breezed into the top 6 if it wasn’t for the freak number of injuries.
