Gateshead prevented from entering National League play-offs.

Because of their stadium doesn't meet the required standards for the EFL.

That's so ****.
It happened to Darlington a few years back too.

It's actually worse in this case because the stadium is fine, it's just they rent it and can't guarantee they'll be tenants for the next 10 seasons.

That's a shame.

I was looking forward to them becoming Sunderland's main rivals by virtue of being the nearest league club to them.

Such a shame for them. Gateshead Council have clung on to the stadium while shuttering the main leisure centre in town and all the other cuts you'd expect over the past decade. The prospect of having to hand it over to a private entity or whatever is likely why they can't make a guarantee.

I think previous owners had talked of building a ground of their own near the town centre quite a few years back, but that's an unlikely prospect now.

They can penalise Gateshead and whilst I appreciate the same people don’t make the decisions in all cases but there’s something palpably wrong with English football when the so called ‘elite’ can win domestic and European honours whilst blatantly cheating and ignoring rules. I use the term ‘honours’ loosely as I make this point.
