Sam Greenwood

Dana Malt has just delivered a true verdict on Greenwood on the radio. Its about the first time since the days of Malcolm Allison have I heard such a truthful and damning opinion on any Middlesbrough player. She basically said he's just not good enough. Personally I think she was being too kind !
 
He’s poor, even worse with Engel behind him, there is literally no chemistry between them, as a pairing they bring the worst out of each other. Strangely I think if Leeds don’t get promoted we will sign him, at 1.5m I think they will see it at as a no risk signing, he’s played enough games/showed enough potential to get that fee back, even if he shows no improvement, a champo club will take a punt on him for that fee. Issue is wages, if Leeds go up, he’s on reported £50k a week, not a chance a champo club will take that on. I’ve heard he’s on £25k now, Boro paying £15k, Leeds making up the difference.

Good on her, Maddo and Drury bottled it during the game you could tell.

I really like Dana. No BS. Just says it how it is and is generally pretty bang on with her analysis.

If Sam Greenwood is earning 50k a week as a footballer next year i'm just going to call it a day i think.
 
I've been critical of him from very early on. Even when he was supposedly playing well I wasn't seeing it. He has had some great moments but no great games.

I really think he is one of the worst decision makers I've ever seen in a Boro shirt. He clearly has technical ability but he just never uses it correctly. He holds the ball and runs into blind alleys constantly. He shoots from anywhere and it's rarely the best option. He's created next to nothing because he invariably loses the ball (by shooting from miles out or failing to dribble through a crowd). Defensively he's a liability.

I think a lot of his failings are because he's really a striker and not an attacking midfielder or winger. That's where he's played all his youth football. Getting the ball and working into a position to shoot us what a striker would do but it doesn't make sense 40 yards from goal. He's not fast enough or strong to play as a striker at this level so if he wants to play at this level he's going to have to learn how to be a midfielder. I don't think he's going to succeed in that and I don't want to pay the asking price and see him struggle for several seasons without improving until we release him on a free because nobody else will buy him off us and pay his high wages.
 
The "he's still a young lad" narrative can't excuse it much longer. And this isn't a dip in form. This is a guy who looked like he had downed boots weeks before our playoff hopes were dashed. Even his pots at goal are long range, desultory efforts, like a pre-match warmup. He doesn't seem to have the mentality to be a loan player, he knows he'll get a job somewhere. On double the wages when leeds go up, which let's face it, unfortunately they will.
I haven't posted much (new poster) and this is very negative and ranty, so sorry for that but I was actually irritated by him tonight.

I dont think youll find any fans left given the poor attitude and work rate shown in a must win game. Very frustrating player to watch. I am pretty sure that his time done with us on the pitch. Hope so anyway. .
