Uber taxis arriving in Stockton

Good news….apparently due to a surge in demand, as in people clicking on the Uber app to try for a taxi…..let’s get it done in Boro…..https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/uber-finally-announces-long-awaited-28891411

Hopefully we can now get taxis on time.

Im sick of having bookings accepted hours beforehand and for the taxi driver who bid on the job was 30 mins away on the otherside of Teesside.

They couldn’t come to Teesside previously because Boro were too cheap for them to compete and make a decent profit for shareholders. Over the last couple of years Boro have consistently upped prices, introduced surge charging and added fees for queue jumps and drivers waiting outside your house for whatever they decide is too long. It will be interesting to see how Boro react to this as Uber will undoubtedly expand to cover the whole area soon.

Some seriously shocking prices from Boro taxi / Stockton Taxis now. Less than 10 minutes to get to Norton high street, almost £10. I’d rather get the bus 👍🏼

Generally good value, unless demand is particularly high and prices go through the roof.
I did a little experiment with it on Saturday. During the England game i asked for a price for a short jouney in Billingham. The fare during the game was £3.60 but when I asked for the same journey just as the game had finished. The price went up to £25.

Hate Boro taxis with a passion. Booked one weeks in advance for the Killers concert at the riverside… didn’t turn up. Rang them up with the reference number… and the guy actually told me to **** off.

Never used them again and never will. I’d rather drive

They are horrendous and pretty much hold a monopoly over the area in their various guises.

Give Uber has managed to make a dent in the London and NY (amongst other cities) taxi businesses, I'm not sure Boro taxis will prove to be their ultimate nemesis.

The difference is London and NY have always been ran by independent drivers, or multiple companies who are always competing with each other.

Boro Taxis own a complete monopoly.

No. Hope there is no intimidation of the Uber drivers either. Their presence should be welcomed.

Not sure they’d get away with it, Uber are more than big enough to kick up a stink as high as it would need to go to make it stop.
