"Significant Teesside Airport contract announced at opening of GMI Construction Group’s new Tees Valley office"

All politicians are shisters regardless of colour, none are worth their salt or in it for the people.
I think this is true at the higher levels of politics. I have no doubt if and when Labour win the election there will be reports of corruption and shady goings on.
I don't think it is true at 'grass roots' level. Most local MPs and councillors that I know do have their constituents at heart. I know my local MP works very hard and has helped me personally with a couple of things, though I wouldn't trust their party leader or cabinet as a whole.
It makes choosing who to vote for at General Election time tricky. Local elections less so.

Local politics and national politics are two different animals.

Think I read somewhere that it'll create 2000 new jobs in the area.
so a £200m investment for 2,000 jobs means £100,000 investment per job? Anyone have anything to benchmark that against for value for money for the local tax payer?

It's weird as Darlington, although listed as fulfilment, anything I order from Amazon gets picked up from Newcastle or Leeds?

And surely would be more sensible to come from Darlington?

the Wynyard one is much bigger and think that is also open now and yet my stuff still comes from Leeds/newcastle

That's how Amazon works though. The fulfillment centres are literally just massive warehouses where stuff gets packed for delivery and then it goes to the distribution centres for delivery.
See if you can find the "Dom does" on iPlayer and there's an Amazon episode where he gets some champagne glasses engraved for his missus at a manufacturer and then follows the package as it goes through the Amazon network to his door. It's amazing that they can do one day delivery at all when you consider that the item you order might be at the opposite end of the country. It's literally like pass the parcel between sites to get to your door.

Mo Mowlam's office was at the end of my street when she was in the cabinet and the old "they're all the same" line was nowhere near the truth with her. She was open to the dull, everyday problems of local people and sorted stuff out for them without fuss or favour. She was straight down the line.

My mate wrote Mo's first ever election leaflet, true fact.

This is a very valid point. If you find yourself in a situation where your MP can and does help you that should make you feel as though you have been properly represented and helped. If that MP happens to come from a party for whom you would not usually vote...

My dealings with the MP for Darlo has shown him to be a nodding dog agreeing with whatever is party dogma at any particular moment. The previous Labour incumbent Jenny Chapman was excellent. I expect that Peter Gibson has done enough to ensure that he gets a safer seat to contest next time out as reward for his devotion to the cause.

Weirdly I'm currently playing in a session with Jenny's dad. Small world!

My dealings with him led to me asking if he had any original thoughts of his own. I never got an answer to that one.
