Gambling Addiction

NHS Gambling Addiction clinics double in the last year. Demand for these services has increased 80% in the last 4 years.

But hey, ban booze advertising in football and replace (on steroids) with gambling.

Betting and Gaming Council say "nothing to see here, we're all good". A £14bn year industry in the UK.......😳😳

It's hardly surprising. We were talking about this issue at work. Especially during Talksports coverage of the Cheltenham festive.

They had Paddy Power on once an hour with 'tips' and advice. That and 'celebs' who happily chatted about how much they had won or lost.

Then casually throw in the odd 'when the fun stops' type advert.

This is from a radio station that has in the past done interviews with former professional footballers who've struggled with addiction.

What side of the fence are they on? Plugging the shows main sponsor? Then run an advert or interview about how bad gambling can be. I don't think you can do both.

I guess the millions gambling companies put into talksport and sky 'talks'. The likes of Laura Woods etc being a face for bookies. Then interviewing a footballer who's lost everything through gambling.

It doesn't overly sit right.

It's too easy now. One click on your smart phone and there you are. All of the offers/free bets etc.

It's the reason I still do it the old school way and go to the betting shop. I really feel for people who are severely addicted to gambling but I can see why the numbers are higher now than ever before.

You mean the stop when the fun stops slogan isn’t working ???

It’s lunacy that they got away with such a trite phrase in the first place gambling is an addiction and like any other the fun never stops as you just chase losses to get back to square 1 losing more as you go.

Imagine if the alcohol industry ran “so you’re an alcoholic but hey just have the one…”

The saturation advertising - cheeky, bright, glitzy adverts giving you "free" bets - is everywhere. TV. Radio. Social Media. Sports stadiums, kits.....

Aimed at absolutely everyone.

Pretty much impossible to escape.

Buts its all deemed good harmless fun, like it is your granda going into the bookies Saturday afternoon in the 1950s with his maximum shilling stake.

Now, gone towards a far more sinister environment. Lose thousands in minutes while sitting on your sofa.

Check out Denise Coates salary over the years. Britain's richest woman I think. She built a new house and grounds at a cost nearly £100m.

She is the founder of Bet365.

Her fortune has been grown on British blood money.

Yep. The advertising is horrific.

I keep hearing Chris Rock tell me that new MGM Grand betting site is "Golden".

I won’t have an online account for that reason because I’ll be bankrupt in a month it’s horrendous how easy it now. I have all the football results apps and every one is linked to betting so it’s packaged together.

Btw I don’t know if you realise but all those apps like Forza football etc don’t work in the us as they are blocked.

Yes it packaged like that have a flutter go on join in the fun.

The worst is paul merson in the ads he really does have the morals of an alley cat.

It’s a poor tax pure and simple and a blight on modern Britain.

As above all the shiny happy enticing offers and free bets money back you can’t lose

But remember children….. the first is always free

Love to know how much these celebs get paid for these adverts. Bets it's absolutely eye watering - the immoral sh*ts.
This is different though as it’s a us company using us stars because there no way they could do that in the states so Chris Rock as with any other American won’t have seen a bookies or even grasp the concept of uk style betting

as to them it’s all high end sports books in Vegas or Atlantic city filled with glitz and glamour.
