Old Oak - Film

If you're a fan of Ken Loach I'd recommend watching "Ladybird, Ladybird", which is based on a true story.

Crissy Rock plays the role of Maggie brilliantly and so realistically. Loach has this ability to provoke such strong reactions and let's the experience of ordinary people and their plights be heard. Working-class realism at its finest.

I'll give that a go if I can find it

His last three films have been based in the North East and really show how life is grim for many working class people

I Daniel Blake (how hard it is for people with an illness trying to find work)
Sorry I missed you (working long hours as a white van online delivery man)
Old Oak (placing of Syrian refugees in an old mining village)

All excellent, but get about 1% of the publicity of an average TV reality show.

Set in the former coal mining villages in East Durham. Syrian refugees are moved into £8k terraced houses owned by Property Investment companies overseas. Unemployed/living on welfare locals with little to their name take a dislike. Interesting and emotive film. I would strongly recommend it.
Loved the film

Just finished this - thanks for the recommendation - fantastic. Real characters/actors. So so real in all departments. Can't believe this one passed me by as I thought I'd seen all Ken Loach's films.

Watched it yesterday, brilliant film. Chris McGlade fantastic portrayal of Vic the racist but undoubtedly the guy who played the publican TJ was the star, unbelievable performance. Word of warning there is a LOT of swearing.

Yeah, it's one of my favourites.

Completely changed my opinion of Crissy Rock as well. Exceptional performance from her.
