FFP / FSR - Boro

Given that the basics of it centre around not spending more than you generate, it got me thinking, what exactly do Boro do to try and maximise revenue?

Surely we should be trying to grow our fan base? In all my years supporting Boro we have always seemed very insular, and the club's brand has not been very far reaching.

Wouldn't a bigger fans base generate more money, which would in turn increase our spending limit, which would improve our chances of success on the pitch?

Or is this kind of thinking too simplistic?

What could we do to increase our fan base?

It does feel kind of inevitable that we'll have to eventually make one of those puff-piece series for Amazon or Netflix or whoever.

"Middlesbrough - We Shall Be!"

I have always found it strange that Boro shirts can only be bought directly from the club. Even when we where competing in Europe and being in cup finals and having high world wide reputation players we still only sold in the club shop, selling them through big sports shop chains would surely bring more interest into the club.

Change the sizing of the shirts. Wasting X's and L's through the printing process. I'm not XXXXXL. Could be saving X's all over the place.

Why don't you ask this question in the Boro Shop Q and A ???

Sign a couple of Korean or Japanese players maybe?

Better shirts and merchandise obviously

Try and woo Taylor Swift or Beyonce to start dating Hackney.

Join the RedBull stable and become RB Middlesbrough

We'd need the extra tier on the East Stand in 18 months.

Target east Cleveland/east coast. Plenty of people along that area support Leeds with no real reason. We should of been tapping into that during the 90s. Shuttle buses etc.

I was going to write about East Cleveland.

The Boro Foundation are doing quite a few activities in and around Loftus. I believe they opened a centre in an old building there and used George Friend for a couple of years before he left. They have now put on subsidised bus fares for up to 40 fans with pick ups in the Skeleton, Liverton and Loftus areas. OK small scale but it is something. The area is only 15 miles from Boro, but seems further. Leeds is 75 miles away.

It's also particularly annoying given how many of our fans live outside the area.

For the size of the club we must have one of the biggest "ex-pat" fan bases in the country given the numbers who leave the area for work/uni and never return.

These fans end up having kids etc (and I suppose in rare instances might even get friends interested in the club) yet the club make it as difficult and inconvenient as possible for them to get hold of shirts.

Wouldn't be so bad if the P&P was reasonable or free.

I worked in East Cleveland for 15 years or more and obviously knew dozens of Leeds fans. In all my time working out there, I never knew one attend a single game.

I pretty much agree with all of that except the Nobby bit. He couldn't pin the tail on the donkey never mind pick a player.

To be fair our home and away attendances have shown an improvement over the last season or so.

We are not going to get out of area/non legacy fans unless in premier league.

I think this will lead to us sticking where we have been the last 10-15 years.

Due to expansion of southern cities (especially london), and much more wealth in those areas I think there will be a lot more london/southern based clubs in the prem/just under than historically.

So historically we have been 15th to 30th ish team in the country with a few seasons above/below.

I suspect we will be 20th to 35th club the majority of time now unless the rules/structure changes. Again... with a few years above/below

My friend got a bus from Thirsk. Covid prevented some people coming to games, covid passports/not having mobiles etc meant numbers went down, price of petrol went up and the bus stopped. Wonder how many that lost us? I think subsidised buses would help.
