Your favourite stand up set.

Rich Hall- Hell No I ain’t happy. The Otis Lee Crenshaw second half is the greatest comedy I’ve ever seen.

All of Daniel Kitson’s shows are great but Midnight at the Stand is my favourite. Stewart Lee’s shows are equally as good. After that I’m a bit hit-and-miss with comedians. Rob Newman, David Baddiel and Frank Skinner can be quite good. I’m not a fan of the quick-fire one-liner comedians like Jimmy Carr, Gary Delaney, and Milton Jones. They are ok in small doses but I couldn’t sit down and listen to a 1 hour+ show of random one-liners. I like a narrative and a flow to my comedic routines.

If anyone is looking for a new comedian, I think Shane Gillis is going to be a big name. His ‘Live in Austin’ special is really good and he’s about to host SNL after being fired before he ever appeared a few years ago due to racial things he had said on podcasts years earlier.

It was slurs against people of Asian heritage

It was doubly awkward as also joining SNL that year was Bowen Yang.

Him hosting SNL that could be interesting… esp the monologue. Awkward

It’s because he was a pro trump supporter that’s Why lorne fired or rather cancelled his contract) so if he is hosting SNL that could be interesting.
He has said Lorne Michaels did everything possible to help him and keep him on the show. The issue was TMZ within hours of him being announced as a new cast member had trawled through old podcasts and pulled clips of him doing Asian accents and using slur words. He actually handled the situation really well, acknowledging that he was wrong and they were right to fire him. I think that’s why he’s been brought back to host despite being more right wing. He’s put out some hilarious sketches on YouTube since then and does a really good Trump impression so I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do.

I remember his sacking at the time as he was big news that they were after a right wing comic. A lot of maga who hate SNL suddenly got excited that it was going for a right wing comic.

I’ll def check it out.

In terms of 'bits' that have stuck with me and always make me laugh:

Stewart Lee Anti Muslim jokes:

Bill Burr's bit on Duck Dynasty and all of the 2015 I'm Sorry You Feel That Way special

Louis CK on Good Will Hunting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbEMYaXVEjw

John Mulaney: There's a horse in the hospital https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhkZMxgPxXU&t=6s

In terms of whole specials, James Acaster's Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 is one of the most complete 2 hour shows I've ever seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHqma3rx-xI

Not quite stand up but John Finnemore is the funniest current writer for me. Hopefully his planned project with Armando Iannucci comes to fruition soon. Two of the funniest riffing off each other should be brilliant.

Stewart Lee is just brilliant. Saw him at Newcastle the other weekend. He takes the **** out of himself, people who don't like him, people who do like him. Best stand up I've seen live.
He’s been even better since he came back. There can’t be many comedians who have had a years long break from doing stand up and come back better than ever.

Handled it well

That was good. I wasn’t sure what he would do but I did see a clip where he said another comedian had told him he could just do a 5 minute set of stand up. I’m glad it wasn’t just him addressing the firing the whole time. It was pretty consistent with the stuff he does in his normal shows.
