Steve Gibson your time is up!!

Not sure I buy that excuse for this coming seasons prices, the prices would have gone up significantly in 19/20 and 20/21 that's when the money we committed to FFP was at it's highest while our income was at its lowest as parachute payments plumetted. We got through this by signing players like Bola and Morrison and installing a cheap rookie manager
I just thought it would be interesting to compare our pricing to other clubs over the years, particularly during that period when we were in the Premier League, and Gibson generally got things right in regards to decision making.

People are suggesting it's to cover for money lost due to his own mistakes, but it's also been suggested by many that Gibson feels the prices need to be high because we don't have a large fanbase. I guess the risk would be what it the prices are dropped but the attendances remain the same, or if the team is underperforming, and this actually results in the attendances dropping.

Surely we would then be losing out in revenue if we have a smaller number of fans attending games, who are buying tickets at a lower price.

We’ve been given that impression for the last few summers and we’re still waiting. Akpom millions not reinvested. Spence millions not reinvested. Tav millions not reinvested. SG supporters will counter with covid/increase in running costs. Conveniently forgetting that this cuts both ways. Fans have had to endure the financial uncertainty of covid. Had to pay more for their utilities. The club passing this onto the fans in the manner they have is nothing short of a scandal.

to manage FFP within the rules you have to be clear of big earners and big transfer fees for 3 years. That gives you the FFP room to invest. We couldn't invest big the last few years because of the impact of the Garry Monk experiment. Here's one players impact, but Fletcher, Howson and McNair are all the same to a lesser degree.

17/18 - Britt amortised transfer fee 3.75m + wages 1.5m = 5.25
18/19 - Britt amortised transfer fee 7.5m + wages 3m = 10.5m
19/20 - Britt amortised transfer fee 11.25m + wages 4.5m = 15.75
20/21- Britt amortised transfer fee 11.25m + wages 4.5m = 15.75
21/22- Britt amortised transfer fee 7.5m + wages 3m = 10.5m
22/23- Britt amortised transfer fee 3.75m + wages 1.5m = 5.25
23/24 - Britt 0

This year is the first time we have been free of Britt, that's why we tried to spend 7m on that Everton striker, because from an FFP perspective we finally could. It didn't come off though. We've been hamstrung for 6 years, not just Britt but fletcher too, Last season those 2 players will have eaten up 7m+ of our FFP allowance. This is why we cannot allow players to run their contracts down and leave for free, and we cannot panic buy expensive players.

A bad buy like Britt, and make no mistake, he was a terrible buy, can eat 5.25m of your FFP allowance even 2 years after he has gone, a good signing like Rogers can give you +7m on our FFP calculation for the next 3 seasons. That's a a 12m difference on the impact of those players. We are not in a position to just get someone in, because the good work of re-levelling our spend will be ruined very quickly with a couple of bad buys.

Exactly this.

I'm surprised people don't realise this by now. Billionaires don't buy football clubs to make money, increasingly these days they buy them as part of their overall 'portfolio' - a status symbol - and in the case of nation states for PR purposes to sportswash their way into acceptance by the western mainstream.

Middlesbrough have ZERO chance of ever attracting a billionaire owner. None. We have no marketing value or 'status' outside of Teesside for starters, and we will never have a high enough profile to have any PR value to some dodgy regime.

We've been extremely lucky to have Gibson be custodian of our club for 30 years now. Just look at Derby and Blackpool on how it can go t!ts up if you have charlatans take over. People need to accept that the days of signing Juninho, Rav, and Emerson are over. Even if we make it to the Premier League, we will no longer try and compete to sign the calibre of players we once had. Its about looking after the club and its regular everyday employee's who work for it, and giving Teesside a club that competes year after year at the level its at, and not allowing it to repeat 1985/86.
If that was really the case then about only about 10 teams in english football would have ever been taken over.

Wolves, Leicester, Bournemouth, Southampton, Brighton, Brentford before their takeovers were hardly football power houses were they. Im sure these rich owners are looking for potential, we have a great fanbase and have been in the premier league for a decent period in the past. With decent backing and a good manager there is no reason we couldn't compete with the for-mentioned teams.

It is funny. But it’s aimed at me so I’m not gonna find that part of it funny.
I'm always of the opinion, that if you can't laugh at yourself, then how can you laugh at anyone else.

I am the first to highlight any mistakes I make and at 62, believe me I make plenty. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I do. But I haven’t made a mistake here have I?

Steve Gibson should know more than anybody Teesside is a hard working class town, money is especially tight at this moment in time and he is completely pricing the average supporter out of the game, shame on you Steve 😡
He’s a Tory. That’s the reality. He publicly backed the scum party in the last election. He’s just waiting or a knighthood to go with his ridiculous oversized dolls house. I’ve never liked him. That doesn’t really matter though. My opinion is irrelevant in a world run by multimillionaires and working class boot lickers.

Ferk me, I'm not saying you've made a mistake, I've said I am the first to highlight my mistakes and laugh at them.

Edit: You seem a little prickly this morning, everything ok?

I’m fine. Just wasn’t expecting to read that I was ‘owned’ when looking back at the thread it doesn’t read that way to me but each to their own

You don't seem fine, especially allowing something like that to get to you.

Gibson is the least of our worries,I have never heard or seen any of our managers complain about no being backed by him.our biggest problem this year's has been our injury list and the loss of players due to tournaments
Plus selling two of our main attacking threats morgan/crooks but we will just skip past that one eh!!
