The USA is already finished as THE major global military power and kinpin of NATO.
Other arrangements are already well underway. The USA has been identified as an unreliable partner/ally this last year.

Here's Trump telling them exactly that in 2017. The entire NATO leadership is lined up like recalcitrant schoolkids as Trump spells it out for them

Trump, like Putin, is a loose cannon and his judgement cannot be trusted. He thinks that he can do things like in the US war films, where America always comes out on top. The dozy get would push the nuclear button just to see what would happen, but thank God there are another two additional gatekeepers who hopefully would nullify his idiocy.

He actually asked his chief of staff last time he was elected what is the point of having nuclear weapons if we never use them.
Oh and he did fire the largest none nuclear ordnance in the us military Arsenal the so called MOAB ( mother of all bombs)

I’m not sure that NATO is on the wane, just wishful thinking on some peoples’ part.

I think USA and Russia are playing a dangerous game with Europe
IF - I repeat IF Europe got it's act together with military spending and co-operation, you have a huge sleeping giant starting to wake up. There's around 750 million people in Europe, with the correct spending, infrastructure, etc Europe would demolish both Russia and USA with ease

Maybe so But the reality is that none trust the other and most can’t stand each other as Look at Germany back tracking on Ukraine as an example.
Trump was making this point in his last Presidency. I think the UK are the only nation who are making the full contribution due to NATO, possibly France are too. Germany hasn't contributed much at all. You might not like the way he's saying this - but what he is saying is very important.
I can't see a European Army filling the void if the USA withdraws from NATO.

France withdrew from NATOs central structure for decades only rejoining in 2009 however it remains the only member not integrated in their nuclear structure.

Would an independent Scotland mirror the same Canada/USA defence relationship with the rest of the UK? Does Ireland pay into the NATO pot?
