Bad back

Definitely any exercise which works the core is crucial. I hope to do Pilates more when better.

I think first step is definitely finding out which disc is the issue. Golf, suggested above, for me would be good from walking perspective but the swing movement would be a disaster. Tennis is similar. Just about listening to body isn’t it. Heat for example - bath. Spa. Heat patches etc have a bad impact on me but cold is good.

UTB.
Agreed.

Well, my GP has referred me to the Pain Clinic but can’t get an appointment til early March, however I invested in a private MRI scan, the conclusion of which was my L5 lumbar is sticking into the S1 nerve, and that surgery is recommended, my GP will get a copy of the report and images, hopefully this will at least speed up the process towards some resolution.

Went private for an MRI scan after niggling back pain for years turned into a full time problem in November. Just been diagnosed with multiple levels of disc degeneration. Job and life change incoming. Don’t ignore it

My next door neighbour is currently on a 2 week back pain seminar/exercise event that her GP sent her on. When she was telling me about it she said it was a new thing they were trying as surgery wasn't always successful.

I have a consultancy with the private firm on Thursday and then will have a meeting with the GP next week, who will have the results, images and recommendations, so hopefully there will be some consistency of approach.

My Daughter is a chiropractor, she does wonders with people at her clinic, sadly for you it is in Gloucestershire. I have suffered with bad backs for years and she advised to strengthen my core, especially my glutes by squatting regularly. It is certainly helped me.

Out of interest, has anybody used Vista Health for a self referral for a private MRI scan, can this bypass a lot of the NHS ted tape, understand this would only bypass the scan waiting time but I assume the results would be sent to your own GP for their analysis and recommendation??
I did. Don’t get sent to GP. You receive photographs and a report from specialist. Normally get it 48 hours later. I tried to interpret pictures myself but YouTube didn’t help 😂 report is written by a doctor.

Similar to mine. I was due to have operation on 18th Jan but was cancelled as specialist and physio are pleased with progress so want me to continue. Most days I swim or walk for an hour. Cycling is good also. I wouldn’t have been able to get to this stage without gabapentin and physio exercises. It is frustrating injury because it takes time but keep positive mate. UTB

Thanks mate, that’s really good to hear.
