Doreen's Black Pudding

Hi,

NYBoro mentioned Doreen's Black Pudding on here in the last week or so and I was wondering if any shops sell it locally.

It is my brother in laws birthday next week and we are going down to Cambridge to visit him. For his birthday we are putting a hamper together for him and wanted to get him some of this black pudding - his mum was called Doreen. Being a proper northern lad he loves black pudding and with it being called Doreen it would make it even more special.

Any help would be appreciated.

It might interest you to know Norman, that Mortagne-au-Perche, a small town less than 20kms from me and 30 minutes from Alencon is the self-proclaimed capital of black pudding (boudin noir) and holds an annual fair and concourse in March over three days. I don't eat a lot of boudin noir, but love a few boudin blanc. Getting peckish now.

That sounds like something I would love to attend. I will look into this

We are going to try and talk the brother in law and his wife into attending with us in March. If that happens, we might have to have a FMTTM Coffee Club meeting in France. ;)

Bury (and specifically Bury Market) is also the self-proclaimed capital of black pudding ..... and Ramsbottom up the road hosts the World Black Pudding Throwing Championship every September where the idea is to knock over a stack of Yorkshire Puddings on a 20ft high platform with a Black Pudding

This is a picture of the guy who won the 1980 competition to eat the most boudin - over 2 metres apparently. Could be named the black-pudding throwing-up championships.

The best I've had was Creole boudin, often served as a starter of boudin balls in restaurants in the southern states of USA, a Louisiana staple.

Local to where we lived a donut chain used to knock up boudain kolaches, a warm bread ball filled with the spicy boudin. I used to pick them up on a Saturday morning prior to going into work, they'd still be warm when we tucked into them.

Good luck with your search for Doreen's, you'll find it online if you can't find a shop.

I saw it on sale in Northallerton (Lewis & Cooper I think).

Personally I prefer the Simon Howie black pudding - him who does the haggis in supermarkets.

I love the "Wee Black Pudding"

The finest black pudding I have ever tasted is Macleod and Macleod' Stornoway Black Pudding but I am keen to try Doreen's, supposedly sold in Darlo but no hint of which shop sells it. 🤷‍♂️
