Improved offer for Goode made

Oh so now you have changed your reasoning completely. What have you got against Gibson? If it’s feasible financially without skinting us it’s an excellent signing.
He's a failure in footballing terms, he hasn't played in two years.. we're only considering him because he is the chairmans nephew - there's no way we would be considering him otherwise

I hope Ben does well in his career and gets back on track, but we need to stop looking in the past.

He's not a failure. He's won promotion to the Premier League, captained his hometown club, was transferred for £15m and has received an England call up.

I believe that once he got into the real world away from the safety of uncle Steve... he failed miserably - that can't be denied.... if he anything running back here to uncle Steve makes it even worse
He was never been given the chance to ‘fail miserably‘ at Burnley, once he established himself as a regular here he was in the side on merit,to insinuate Steve Gibson influenced his selection by all our managers at the time is totally wrong.

OK I'm sorry Ben was a roaring success at Burnley having 6 appearances in 2 years

He failed miserably after he moved from MFC once he got into the real world... i never mentioned his first spell here you did

Think you’re being harsh Juno . The lad had opportunity to improve his career and responded accordingly .Who on this board has never done such a thing ? He picked up an early high impact injury and couldn’t get back in .

remember he had chance to go to WBA when he was knocking on the country’s door and he stayed with us to afford us a season of making good . It was only when we failed he left us . Many players would of been off The season before then .

The lad owes us nothing and I’d be glad to see him back if so .

You're 100% right, I am being harsh - but i'm looking at it realistically. For far too long we've had 'jobs for the boys' and 9 times out of 10, it's failed

We're in a dog eat dog world, we wouldn't be considering a player who has played 6 games in 2 years and as you say was unlucky with injuries, if he wasn't the Chairman's nephew

People will obviously disagree and that's fine, but it's just my opinion

I dunno but I just can’t see Ben a Gibson being that fussed about joining Norwich. Yes they have parachute money and could meet more of a share of his wages but if he doesn’t fancy it then it ain’t gonna happen and ultimately Burnley may be forced to take a lower bid on wages or have him full cost sat there.
This could be one where it’s who blinks first and might go to the deadline - or I could be talking shoite ...🤣

Yes, because as we know, every manager with his salt decides to buy players based purely on their relationship to the club's chairman.

Dear me, you really come out with some baloney you lad.

The £15m Ben Gibson we sold to Burnley is better than anything we currently have or can afford to buy. I’m sure he would regain fitness and form if he got back into the Boro team but mentally I think the guy has already ‘moved on’ and it would be quite a humbling experience to have people perceive his career was saved by his Uncle Steve. I think if Goode comes in Gibson is likely to move on. Whether that is best for him and Boro only time will tell but I would prefer he didn’t join one of our rivals in the Championship

I remember when he first broke through some fans were saying he was only playing because of his uncle. So I guess thinking that his uncle will now save him, is just part of the narrative.

I think it would be a good move for all if he came on a half season loan. I get the impression is in Burnley's court because they own Ben's playing contract. Ben's action say he is happier on Teesside at present and MFC have taken him in. It needs Burnley to allow him to come on loan and pay the difference in wage levels.

why would we look to sell two very decent Championship strikers for - comparative peanuts - even in this financially challenging time.... when we'd have to spend pretty much the same money to get probably unproven strikers in....

Fletcher, esp, for me has a big future & I think next season could be his best... Britt I have no real issues with & he's a proven striker at this level & in his prime... no need to take a big loss on him, if we're even looking to sell at all..

Not exactly setting the bar high there for Fletcher.
We have already made the big loss on Assombolonga. The Club will have already amortised at least £11m across his first 3 years. The thing is do you want to take another c£4m this season plus his wages? That is a real hit to this coming year's P&L (&FFP)

Ben Gibson played his heart out for us, got us promoted, did well with Chambers in the PL, stayed and helped us reach the play offs again, before generating a £15m profit for the Club he loves.

Unless Assombolonga is sold this summer, he will have cost Middlesbrough that £15m, plus much higher wages than Gibson ever cost. And he has been poor.

That's a £30m swing there, without even looking at wages.

It shows the value in getting the academy and buying upwardly mobile youth right.

Ignoring the fact that he’s been training with Boro for ages. I’m guessing the coaching staff have been able to assess his game during that time.

IF we get him for next season I’m sure it’s because the coaching staff and particular Warnock felt it was a good move.

Someone made the comment that we wouldn’t be in for him if SG wasn’t his uncle, I totally agree on the grounds I don’t think we’d have a chance - given the family connection let’s take full advantage of it and get in a player better than we might attract otherwise.

I believe he will be chomping at the bit, have a point to prove to everyone and be full of energy. I can’t see this being anything other than a great bit of business if we can pull it off.

I like Gibson but realistically we would be either foregoing payments due to us or giving money to buy him, plus PL-ish wages

I’d rather get a couple of solid players for that money then spaff it all on Gibson. Good player, but too much to take on given our overall needs
