He's a massive improvement on what we have. That said he played 45 times last season scoring 7 goals. I would be very surprised if they sold a first team regular.

I guess only having a year on his contract gives him a 'price' if he's made clear he doesn't want a new deal. Although 31 after Xmas so wouldn't want to break the bank.

I'm wondering if we maybe have a couple of quid? Also linked with Armstrong at Blackburn... He wouldn't be cheap (16 goals).

Would be a great signing. We seem to be targeting players who we probably couldn’t normally afford but only have a year left on their contracts. Covid has re-set the financial playing field, it’s a good year to get high earners like Gestede, Clayton and Ayala off the books, they all signed their last contracts when we were in the prem. We have always been massively propped up by Gibson, the problem isn’t having the money, it’s ffp preventing the club from spending it. I have faith in Warnock and love that he’s calling the shots, he has an eye for a player and his record in the transfer market is more hit than miss. He will know Hoilett too.

At least if we sign him this one won’t go down as a “Gibson gift”.
