8 clubs in support of Charltons legal challenge.

Eight clubs backing up Charlton as they look to challenge the Sheffield Wednesday decision.

I think it's fair to say that we are probably one of them.

Good & I hope they're successful

Sheff Weds will sadly have a better chance of clawing back those 12 points & survibg than Charlton will have of returning back to the Championship

How is that sporting fair

😇

Clubs looking after their own interests and not wanting to make waves I assume is why there aren't more.

Probably a few (as alluded to with the Derby reference above) who might not be far off being in breach of FFP themselves either. 8 or 9 isn't too bad but you'd hope ideally every club who has clearly abided by the rules would be behind any challenge.

The offence is from 2014 - 18. Why should Charlton benefit.

You could equally argue why should next season’s Championship teams benefit?

With any historical offence, it is impossible to adequately compensate those who lost out at the time, because the moment has passed. It further compounds that injustice, however, to have the penalty delayed to a timing of the perpetrator’s convenience.

If I was prosecuted for crimes committed five years ago, I would expect to receive the penalty at the point of conviction. It wouldn’t cut much ice with the judge for me to argue that it would be difficult for me to receive that penalty now, but next year would be much more convenient for me.

Nor any better for your 'victims' for want of a better word.

It's another area where the EFL rules aren't clear. Wigan's was clear because the ruling is 12 points this season unless already safe and then it applies to the following season. The other rule breaches have clear penalties but no clear indication of when they should be applied.

This sort of deliberate cheating should result in immediate relegation, not points deduction. Teams can flagrantly get away with things all the time and the EFL just lets it happen. Bournemouth are coming down this season after breaching FFP in their promotion season. They've benefitted by nearly £500m since then. What is the point in having unenforceable rules?

because if they had stuck within the rules some or all of the following players wouldwould have had to be sold to balance the books instead of selling the stadium and illegally pumping money in:

Rhodes, Westwood, Fox, Dawson, Palmer, Van Aken, Lees, Lee, Bannan, Reach, Hutchinson, Fletcher, Nuhui, Forestieri

Without some or all of them players, Sheff Wed would have had significantly less experience, number of players and possibly quality in their team this year.

By that reasoning, if the offence is not from this season why arbitrarily apply it next season? If Sheffield Wednesday get relegated next year then someone will benefit anyway.

And next year too.
