Potential yellow card if you deliberately cough

“Where the referee is certain that someone deliberately, and from close range, coughed into the face of an opponent or match official . . . the referee should take action under the law 12 ‘using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures’
“The action of moving the head/mouth towards someone and then coughing would fall within the ‘spirit’ and general definition of a gesture which is ‘a movement of part of the body, especially a hand or the head, to express an idea or meaning’.

“If the incident was not severe enough to merit a sending-off, a caution could be issued for ‘unsporting behaviour — shows a lack of respect for the game’.”

Typical giving the refs a cop out leading to more inconsistency

That would be a ballsy sending off. The very nature of doing physical exercise or activity means you can cough (I can do on a run).

I understand what they mean by 'in someone's face'. You could cough in the visinity and a player could say it was dilibrate.

I would rather they brought in retrospective reds for diving (if it gets a pen or player sent off). Also faking injury.....how many times do you see a player hold his face when he's not been touched or caught in the chest.

When you notice someone cough within ten yards...

Players should just wear masks. Problem solved. Yellow cards for removal of masks.

I've seen the same two people on my way to work jogging with a mask on. If they can do it then ultra fit professional footballers should have no problem. Actually all professional sports mean and women.

The opening comment is not incorrect, but it is designed to achieve a desired effect. I suppose therefore, it has been successful.
