Drinks breaks

Why not? Because the ball is only in play for an hour as is. Add VAR to that. I want to see action, not player lolling around.

There is no need for evolution. There is no need for constant change. Change in itself is not inherently good.

They're not great, but neither is playing without fans in the ground, things are different.

When planning for the resumption of football, player welfare had to be a consideration. Most teams were to play twice a week during a period when football is not usually played and the weather is generally hotter.

I don't have issues with the players being given an opportunity to remain hydrated, thus lowering the risk of soft tissue injuries due to fatigue and dehydration.

It won't continue as a feature of the game.

My lad had his first friendly of the season today, U12's and they had a drinks break. He was well pi**ed off cos he's a keeper and he'd left his water bottle at the other end of the pitch, so he had to run the full length of the pitch to go and get it and then run to where the manager was and then run back to his goal ready for the game to kick off again. He does not think the drinks break is a good idea 😁

A break on the pitch in the depths of winter could cause problems. You need to keep moving when it's cold.

Sensible post and an understanding of why its done.

It' just one of many, many things that will have been changed, surreptitiously to the advantage of corporates, , by the time the virus has gone,

Whether it's a welcome change or not, it means that next season is not comparable with last season. Players are conditioned for sprints rather than marathons. You see the effect of 'impact' replacements in rugby, and the controversy around it. Some players will suit it better, some will find it career-limiting.

Definitely a no from me..

I understood it for the first 2-3 games after lockdown. I didn't really understand why we still had it.

Already talk of 5 subs coming in permanently. I'm not overly for that as massively swings and advantage to clubs with bigger / better squads. I guess it does mean Fringe players could get more game time.

Just seems to be too many changes to the 'beautiful' game in a very short space of time. I'm not convinced many have actually made it better? Goal line technology... That's about it.

Barnsy - There is not a member on this board that would disagree with the above post and the medical reasons it was introduced. It is when you see the coaching staff getting involved that most people disagree with. I would also have my bottom dollar on it that they remain in place.

They're great, just what the game needed to help it advance, after the addition of VAR we're really close to having a 'perfect game' now! 5 subs is genius too!

Sign of things to come, will be another opportunity to squeeze another 5 adverts in throughout the game. Sky will be loving it.

Maybe there should be a thermometer at pitch-side? Not against drinks breaks should it be excessively warm - say, in August or April-May - but not at any other time. Haven't the corporations got enough of a hold on the game as it is without getting the opportunity to crowbar in a few more commercials? There again, were they to split half the profits of said commercials to clubs further down the pyramid who've suffered through the Covid crisis, I might be more amenable to the idea.

No but i wouldnt be surprised in a rise of nearly broken legs on 20 mins if there taken away. So managers can continue there mini half time team talks

Hopefully bust out the quartered oranges👍

I do miss them and of course the magic sponge. It's mad watching 70s football and a guy runs on with a bucket and sponge😂

Will be interesting how accepted it is when its a freezing December evening with sideways rain.

Give the lads chance to get a brew down themselves though and warm up a bit?

In fact I'd be very much in favour if the drinks break consisted of Betty from the canteen rolling her tea trolley onto the pitch and offering them a cuppa and a selection of cakes and biscuits.

Imagine! Hot chocolate, bovril and tea selections appearing  Brilliant!
