I know many of us listen to this station, but I wonder if I am the only one who is getting a little fed up with it?

Over the last 18 months the target demographic seems to have shifted somewhat and now so much of what is played just seems like wallpaper music to me. Add to the fact that DJs lacking a personality (llike Mary Ann Hobbs) seem to be in vogue and it's a very underwhelming listening experience a lot of the time. Having said that, I still listen, but it's partly because there isn't an alternative (is there?). At least I can use the website and listen to the shows I like best instead of whatever is being broadcast live.

I'm with you, particularly with regards to M.A. Hobbs. We've got it on all day during working hours but it's missing a lot of what it had.

As far as options go we've had a good search about without luck.

I can't put my finger on what it is, but I agree.

Partly it is definitely the switch in time slots of DJ's.

Even so, I subscribe to the Radio 6 playlist on Apple Music. I used to find lots on there to add to my own playlists, but I've just realised that doesn't happen anywhere near as much as it used to. I get more off here in fact.

Whatever is being played right now is a case in point! (Stanton Davis' Ghetto Mysticism - "Brighter Days" for anyone who wants to have a listen later!)

Still the best radio station for me and my dial stays on it all day.

Agree Mary Anne Hobbs isn't everybody's cup of tea, and not mine either, but she is hardly "in vogue" suddenly. She has been a huge part of the station's schedules for 8 years and is pushing on 57.

Problem is that you have so many musical styles now to cater for and you cant cater for just a few.

I still love Ratcliffe and Maconnie at the weekends and always listen on Sunday mornings to Cerys Matthews even though her choice of genres isn't always good to the ear.. Like Chris Hawkins and Lauren Laverne as well. Always play good music.

Finally Guy Garvey on Sunday afternoon is still top class.

not listened in ages... I did really like it, though maybe they've nobbled it with poor presenters so they can finally kill it off... which is what they wanted to do a while ago..

I used to listen quite a lot but more and more wasn't to my taste so drifted away.
I now listen to Spotify all the time and use the discover / made for you / new release playlist etc.
I find that this still gives me an eclectic mix and have found many new styles & artists to my liking with the added bonus if not to my taste, just skip!

I used to listen to The Hawk, then Keaveney and Rad Mac in the afternoons. Now I tune out after the Hawk and occasionally listen to Marc Riley and Gid Coe in the evenings. Used to like Keaveney but he doesn't suit the afternoon slot.

Lauren Laverne is one of the standout broadcasters of her generation and I fear not long for R6, moving upward/onwards. I agree that La Hobbs is terminally soporific and her music choice is very bland, I still enjoy Keaveney and on a weekend RadMac and Cerys are worth a lug full. I don't really get along with the evening output at all though.

Still the best music radio station for me though but.

Mary Anne Hoobs pushing 57 - I never thought she was that old. I thought she was 40ish pretending to be 20. She's the dullest sounding woman I've ever heard in my life. She would literally talk a glass eye to sleep.

Miles Hunt's (Wonder Stuff) ex isn't she? Weirdly, I used to like her on her early morning weekend show (maybe her presenting style suits this slot better?).

Got to agree that LL is the stand-out DJ right now, her show is the one I always pick to listen to via the website (or R&M's weekend shows). Controversial, as I know he's not liked by many, but I've always enjoyed Steve Lamacq's show too. Don Letts' Culture Clash Radio on a Sunday night is a great listen if you've never tried it btw.

I find it very similar to when I started listening to it, back when Phil Jupitus was doing the breakfast slot - some stuff I like and some stuff I dont, but you always know there will be another record along in a few minutes and by and large the DJ's love music which is a massive bonus.

I can get on with pretty much all of the DJ's apart from Keaveney who is about as funny as a severe case of toothache, and has me reaching for the off switch as soon as he is on. Lamacq is pretty stuck in the 90's but seems a good bloke, whereas Keavney is the sort of bloke who you'd leave a full pint to avoid if he walked in the pub.

I’ve liked the covid-related change in schedule times to give Chris Hawkins longer in the mornings. Before my commute was him asking for a listener song to play, then LL doing the same. So poor content.

lamacq needs shuffling off to X Radio.
