Face masks

SmallTown, I have no objection with people wearing a mask wherever they see fit, be that in my back garden, at work, out shopping or walking down the street
We are asking people to wear masks all the time but we witnessed the British public who thought otherwise, or all those protestors all over the country in their hundreds, all the Liverpool fans once they clinched the league & now its to be compulsory
They made a big deal over Cummins going to Barnard Castle but the media made more of a risk than him
This should have been enforced at the beginning, if at all
Which is why it should be mandatory.

Was hoping for some expertise as I know nothing about the N95 grade other than it actually been better than a cloth mask.
I think you may be getting confused. The point of wearing a mask is to slow down the amount you spread the disease. A simple cloth covering will do, help slow reduce the amount of water droplets you expel. You don’t need to worry about grades of filter unless you’re going to be exposed to a lot of the virus such as working in a hospital

I don't want to catch it either and a cloth mask isn't going to stop me catching it as effectively as an N95 standard mask is it?
If it becomes mandatory then the government believe it isn't safe to leave the house without a mask that filters out the nasties surely?

Fine by me. Do you want people to spread disease and kill others? Maybe we should do it until diseases which have no vaccines, no known treatments and have yet to be studied by medical science are less prevalent in the population?

Nobody wants anyone to spread any kind of disease, but it is an unfortunate and largely unavoidable part of every animal species and has been since time began. Are you actually advocating wearing masks for an undefined period of time until there are no known diseases left? Where do you draw the line on what we should/shouldn't do to prevent the spread of anything nasty?

Should we all stay in our houses, work online, only buy from Amazon and order food from Morrisons Home Delivery so we can live as long as possible? Should we also indefinitely ban kissing strangers, shaking hands and avoiding any kind of physical contact with other humans to avoid passing on any other potential bugs or diseases that way?

Let's be honest, SmallTown is a bit of a Tory voting vvanker.

I wear a cloth mask to work and am alone in this as others don't wear a mask which for me is disappointing. I've mentioned before I'm at low risk of dying from Covid-19 but I want to do my bit and asymptotic transmission is gonna be the way it gets round (the reason I wear a mask). Anyway ur daft if u don't wear a mask cos it saves on shaving and hides your double chin - seems a win win for me!

People aren't wearing masks because a) they look bad and b) because it's macho to be nonchalant about one's health.
This will soon be reversed as once I'm seen around town with my repurposed Arafat scarf and paisley facemasks on, people will realise they can be both a fine accessory to a well thought out outfit and can be worn without being unmanned. I did the same thing for the satchel and now you can't walk down the street without bumping into various manly types with a bag over their shoulder.

No ott doesn’t work like that. Wearing of masks is too slow down the spread and keep the rate of infection low. I thought I’d explained this a few times

I've got mine, my daughter bought me a mask for fathers day, I take it with me when we go out incase I have to wear it to enter a shop
You should wear it as a matter of course before entering a shop. Not because you “have to”

This sort of thinking and attitude is why it should be mandatory

You did but if everyone isn't wearing one even if it becomes mandatory then I don't want a cloth mask that won't protect me. I want a proper filtered one.

Michael Gove is on record as saying he trusts people to use their common sense, well look where that got us in Brighton, Bournemouth and Lulworth Cove a few weeks ago. The average Brit either doesn’t have common sense or they think rules don’t apply to them. Masks should be compulsory in high traffic area like shops or you don’t get in, full stop.

This government has absolutely no clue as to how to govern or even advise in any consistent way. They seem to issue a series of statements that are often contradictory and always have to be clarified at some point. They've wasted money, time and lives in their incompetence and judging by the half-ársed utterances from the likes of Gove at present, they are yet again unwilling to commit to enforcing a rule.

Sounds daft but in my black mask I feel a bit like Batman. Working in Newcastle City Centre I don't want to be identified and so the mask is ideal for me.

Do you want a US standard mask? FFP2 are the European standard. (Or go for KN95 for a cheap Chinese version of the US spec.). Google for the best deal.

Exactly this, way too many know it alls on here thinking they are experts on masks. Keep going on about N95 it means jack in this country and they are generally inferior to our own ffp2 standard and much easier to fake certification on. If you want a proper mask but off a genuine uk distributer not one of these pop up shops selling imported crap that is of no use to anything.

That's what I'm looking for, advice from someone who knows. Don't want to buy off of Amazon for something like this because 9 times out of 10 it's probably been made in a Chinese sweat shop.
