    * Red n White Shorts: Boro 3 Chesterfield 0. S/F Replay - Hillsbro` 1997 *

Always assumed it was David Elleray's way of trying to even things up and make amends after - sorry to say it - wrongly disallowing a Chesterfield goal in the first match

Match Thread - Sheff United vs Sunderland PO Final

Lots of possession in their own half, no movement up front, going to sleep when conceding: looks like Sunderland picked up a nasty virus on the way down south on the A19

The worse we are, the more we care (apparently)

Big Give - Arts for Impact

With the horrific cutbacks in cultural opportunities for youngsters in the past few years, please consider making a donation. In a world increasingly dominated by division and no sense of values other than monetary value (through no fault of their own), it really can change young people's lives...

    Carrick

Spot on. And of all those finals, how many did he win? Eh? EH?

    Carrick

Yeah, that's what a lot of people said when Southgate left. Whatever happened to him?

While we are on the subject of disgraceful billionaires, Jeff Bezos deserves a mention

Free Markets (right, like the punitive tariffs Trump's throwing around like confetti) and personal liberty (to decide if you want to terminate a pregnancy)? Go Jeff, go. Incarnate dog's vomit.

    TV Subtitles

I remember the grimness of the Brexit debates (imagine if they`d all accepted the inevitability of it being a catastrophe then - but that's another thread) being livened up by Theresa May`s insistence on Sky News' subtitles that she'd be bringing a meaningful boat to parliament. Still waiting...

    James Mangold - A Complete Unknown… A Must See👍

For those of you confused by the difference between (an attempt at) a factual documentary and a work of fiction based on actual events, I would strongly recommend the brilliant Reith Lectures given by the much missed Hilary Mantel - she of Wolf Hall/Bring Up the Bodies/The Mirror and the Light...

Zone of interest - bafta nominated

You might like to read the late (great) Martin Amis's book on which the film was based; also called The Zone of Interest (2014). No real danger of spoilers as the it's not the plot but the premise (proximity of normal family life and the horrors of the camp) which drives the novel

    Banning the Palestinian flag

Of course it's complex, but the next time you hear an Israeli politician or commentator rant about the barbarism, horror and utter inexcusable acts of killing children, bear this in mind: www.countingthekids.org (apologies if this has already been posted on one of the other threads on this issue)

    Boro before Arsenal

Don't think he'd go that far - but watch out for his articles, you never know! As for the name check, just happy to have added an atom or two's recognition of Boro in the higher echelons of the commentariat

    Boro before Arsenal

Mr. Ronay did indeed take the time to write back, munch a bit of humble pie and describe Boro's feat as actually pretty amazing. No promise of Boro articles, but classy all the same.

    Boro before Arsenal

Yup - just told him to write a few articles about Boro to atone for his oversight.

    Boro before Arsenal

Barney Ronay in the Guardian about Arsenal‘s goal yesterday: This was a goal made and scored at the end of a move involving all four of Arteta’s second-half substitutes, something that has perhaps never happened before in any football match A day and a half earlier: Rogers (67) sweeps the ball...
