If our current team and squad were in the Premier League under Sir Michael Carrick?

How do you think we'd do? I'm currently ridiculously (and almost certainly naively) positive about how good we are, and think they'd hold their own.
Is there anywhere in particular we'd need to strengthen?

Brighton have hammered some very good teams this year, that wouldn't happen to us every week but we'd have to strengthen all areas realistically.

Of course we'd strengthen, but that wasn't the question. The OP believe's we'd do well in the PL now, whereas in reality we're miles away as Brighton didn't really get out of 2nd gear and still beat us comfortably.

We'd go down. Squad isn't strong enough and from our usual starting XI i'd say we would need at least 5 replacement players to survive.

yep i think we agreed, i was suggesting we'd need to strengthen to compete (the same as saying our current team wouldn't compete ;))

They did, though the scoreline flattered them a tad; 3-1 would have been what I'd have called a fair result. Granted it's still a beating.

Brighton have established themselves well over the last couple of seasons and are where they deserve to be, around the perimeter of the big sides. A "mean average" in the quality we'd face would be a little lower than Brighton, IMHO.

However don't let that detract too much from what would happen if our current side were shoehorned somehow into a "reset Prem" for a full season, with all the squads and management as they currently are, with us including our loans as they're part of the side that the OP is hypothesising over(Oh and Leeds can have Wilder 😛) . We'd lose more games than we drew and won put together, including a few hammerings. One positive is that with the way Carrick plays we'd probably scrape a win or two more that you'd expect us to get a draw from (though we'd also lose games that would normally be a draw) represented in this season by only drawing one of his matches thus far.

My best guess (and all anyone can give is a guess) is that from a combination of the unknown factor and Carrick's pass and move attacking approach we'd win 8, draw 6 and lose the other 24 matches, giving us a final points total of 30. This would obviously see us relegated though possibly not in the bottom slot, depending how the season panned out.

Should we go up this season of course then a transfer window with more cash would stand a good chance of improving this to some degree naturally.

We'd have to do something similar to what Cooper's doing at Forest, though on a smaller scale obviously.

How many of the current side would hold their own, minus the loan players?

Confidence is now high, and rightly so after so many good performances in this league. But if we were in the Prem then of course after getting hammered by Brighton, instead of then beating Blackpool and Wigan and getting the swagger back etc, we would then get beaten badly by Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea, all that confidence quickly disappears, players are no longer walking on air and playing for fun, the fans are disgruntled, the manager is under pressure. Staying up in the Prem is a massive challenge.

We could give many of the Prem teams a good game in a one off now, but playing in the Prem week in and week out is different.

I was just thinking that, part of the reason we look so good at the moment is confidence.
I think if we played any of the lower half of the Premier League next week at home, we'd give them a game. However if we'd lost the previous six games, it might be a different story!

Edit-Ive just realised I've pretty much repeated exactly what you'd already put!🤦

Think it would be a long hard slog with the current side.

Of those playing regularly I think only Steffen, McGree, Akpom and Archer are EPL standard.

That said, if a team with Willock and Longstaff in can be top 4, there's hope for anyone!

5th :) - in reality it would be an amazing effort not to finish in the relegation zone. I do think that Archer and Barlaser will have a big impact this year and for Hackney the sky is the limit but to stay up we would need to bring in real quality in six or seven positions UTB
