Hayden Coulson signs new contract to 2025

Surprised Coulson went for it. I very much doubt he will be first choice and doesn't seem suited to playing in a back four (defensively seems to lose concentration). He seems to be enjoying playing first team football for Aberdeen, and at his age, that should be his priority. He's hardly played many games for a 23/24 year old (mainly due to injury). He might be a relatively cheap back up player, but not sure I would trust him in a back four. Seems a strange one, but have to trust Woodgate and the rest of the footballing staff on this one.

it's my feeling the club have got this one wrong - he can't eve get in the Aberdeen team at the minute because he can't defend

My first thought too, although what would be in it for him to sign if that were the case - surely he'd get more money as a free agent, and so he must have certain promises from MC in terms of considering him for the first team at least.

Yes, I was playing devil's advocate, but it's interesting that he's been on the bench in recent games so is hardly 'ripping it up'.

I don't think Aberdeen can defend can they? Shipped 11 goals in 2 league matches leading to the manager getting the boot, and have the worst defensive record in the SPL. Coulson didn't start the 6-0; can't speak for the rest of the season.

We've learned not to judge players by their performance under Wilder. Maybe judging HC's performance amongst a defensive shambles is also misleading.

Bola seems to be busting a gut to get into the team, it is noticeable that carrick is giving him cameos at the end of the game

Hayden Coulson said....

"Woodgate is now back at Middlesbrough as a coach, which is good. I thoroughly enjoyed having him as my manager a few years ago. The club has been good at keeping in touch, we’ve spoken throughout this loan spell. After games, they do a little record and stuff like that.

"As a manager, he was spot on. He was the first one to give me a proper chance early in my career. It gave me a real confidence boost but I was unfortunate to get injured. He had a great career himself so it’s good to have someone like that there, who’s been there and done it. He’s shown me the way to do it.” (y)

I think it says a number of things.

Players want to be part of what is going on.

Carrick and the club will give everyone a fair chance if they show willing.

Coulson was written off really quickly. Remember Hackney had a nightmare at Scunthorpe and look at him now.

Players develop at different speeds - see Chuba.

He will be cheap as chips and raring to give it a go.

Shows the faith Carrick has in Woodgate and his opinions on players.

Well done to all on this one.

I would also say this too. But time will tell
Looking at their forum the consensus seems to be decent going forwards but can't defend. A lot don't really rate him at all. And this is in the Scottish pub league.

He can beat a man, can't really think of anything else he does well. Obviously a Woodgate decision. Suppose it doesn't really cost us anything, he'll be on a small contract, but I'd be surprised if he plays for us again.

Hopefully he proves me wrong and someone can hoof this thread to make me look like a fool next season.

Great post👍

I'd see him being a good bench option when chasing games from left back, or a different option to McGree as wide left attacker. Could be an excellent decision if he can live up to his early promise, if he doesn't, its an inexpensive roll of the dice.

I'm guessing we have been monitoring his progress at Aberdeen and seen enough to want to retain him.

I hope it works out for the lad, I doubt he's earning a King's ransom here.

Now, get Chuba signed up. (y)
Does anyone know Chuba's current contract situation?
