McGree hasn’t just replaced Tav…

I think Tav would be thriving in the Hackney role, but could also play the McGree role (or the Forss role and maybe a few others). His versatility was one of his strengths.

Having said all that, £12m for Tav and having a replacement like Hackney looks like good business at the moment.

Tav had 3/4 seasons in the first team, hackneyhad just this season, already looks like he had 5 years in the team, in 3 years time (if he keeps on the improvement curve) he will be far better than tav, who in my opinion worked hard, but he worked hard trying to recover his own feck ups,

Tav could only dream of having hackney's vision and passing ability

We’re so in love with you ou ou!

To be absolutely honest I think he is the absolute business. Looks like saville from row 14 but he’s a hell of a lot better at football.
I’m glad we got him and the absolute shithousery towards Celtic was class

Tav was more of a winger if I’m not mistake and I seriously doubt he could play a CM role. However I think we tend to forget that our starting 11 with Tav starting was no where near the quality that we have now. Tav has been replaced by two players in my opinion, Giles has replaced Tav on the wing and McGree has replaced Tav’s work ethic.

I don't watch the Premier League, but look to see how our ex-players and those loaned out are getting on and I've not seen Tav's name on their team sheet for several weeks, since possibly before Christmas. Presumably a bad injury. Anybody any the wiser?

EDIT Decided to be less lazy and have a look. Hamstring injury just before Christmas and still out.
Hamstring injury- on his way back I believe

He spent most of last season playing as a central midfielder and he was excellent.

Were you watching our football last season?

Tavernier got 5 goals and 5 assists last season for us.
McGree has 4 goals and 1 assist, with 16 matches to go. He will have to go some to be more productive going forward.
As for defensively/without the ball, nobody surely would say McGree was half the player Tav was/is?

I honestly can't believe people are fawning over McGree by comparison, to a lad who did more and has generated at least £10m for us.

Wikipedia says McGree has 6 goals in 36 games for us - 1 in 6.

Tav was 15 in 135 i.e 1 in 9 and Tav benefitted from taking some free kicks around the area.

I agree Tav did a decent job defensively.

Tav was quality, but similar on effectiveness for me - people forget some sitters Tav missed.

One assist? So Saturdays was Mcgrees first assist of the season? Did his thru ball for chuba v bristol City not count because it clipped the defender?

Instead of who?

The left side has been pretty good all season, going forward at least.

Sunderland Away for starters....... we where screaming out for some width and pace to allow us to counter them. I'd imagine also that Chuba would play up top McGree in behind and Tav wide left in certain games.

Tav was absolutely class and got pelters whilst he was here, his defensive work rate was exceptional and his attacking output got better as time went on.
I'm not surprised to see him doing so well in the PL, Bournemouth are faltering since he got injured. I always look on a Saturday to see how he's doing.

Mcgree is also a class player, thriving in a role that Tav would have also thrived in, under a manager that no doubt would have had Tav purring.

Love them both
