Starting to look pretty serious now. Never entirely sure how concerned we should be about these things but it’s definitely spreading and I reckon it’ll get quite a bit worse in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we can contain it well and then it starts to die down after that.

In think it’s gone beyond containment now as unlike SARS or Mers, covid19 has now gone global and so realistically the only solution now is cure or prevention. With either a vaccine or a cure.
From a market in China to closing cities in Italy 8 weeks later shows the scale of the spread.

Hopefully it will be contained. Flying to Florida in the Easter Hols

They better not cancel the Cheltenham Festival - Can horses run in facemasks

If football matches are cancelled too, I wonder where that leaves the football season

It must be worrying in the bigger cities. The transport infrastructure and population density make it a nightmare scenario for cities like London, New York, Paris etc..

How many airports currently have vetting stations for travellers, what about fery terminals?

Or in London!

I do worry about being quarantined. That‘d cost me a fortune with not being able to work.

Not wanting to lower the tone, but what are the risks to you if you do happen to contract it?

I’ve read it is similar to the flu, in that your only in any risk of peril if you have no immune system or are basically old and frail, and that any normal healthy person hasn’t got to worry.

Possibly that’s not true and it is much worse, but details are not entirely transparent from what I’ve read on it

That's exactly it. Yes it's still obviously serious to those at risk but the media as usual are making it a lot worse than it actually probably is.
Word on the street is pharmaceutical companies in this country are leading the race to a vaccine and it should be ready for trials end of march ready for general use before the summer.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a big spike in the UK in the next week or so. Seems to have been a fair few school trips to Italy. I guess it depends on how serious their problem is and whether they were quick to start the precedures that they have. If they were too slow then we might be about to see it ramp up over here.

That's the problem isn't it, the incubation period before you see a spike. Unless you stop all travel then you'll see it continuing to spread.
