The video that was posted to Twitter was pretty damning. Its more a lack of solid evidence to prosecute. I don't think there is much doubt among the public he behaved like a wrong 'un in this instance.

Be interesting what happens now will Man U take him back and start playing him ??

As don’t forget he was on the cusp of England duty.

Only a tiny % of rape cases end up being prosecuted, something like 1.5%. That's of reported cases as well. There are many more that aren't even reported. Things usually happen in private so there are no witnesses and so most cases boil down to he said she said which isn't enough to convict on. Not going to court because there isn't enough evidence isn't the same as innocent.

As a comparison, how many known criminals are there that the police can't touch because they don't have any evidence to convict them? They know who all the major players are in the gangs but it can take years before they get them doing something they can be prosecuted for.

"the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction."

Could well be that he did pay them off.
If so, I would guess her dad had something to do with it then.

Admittedly that may be the wrong assumption, so happy to be corrected if it turns out not to be the case.

All true, but I am still not comfortable with just assuming all those accused are guilty either.

As with most cases, I suppose it will just be a grey cloud hanging over them forever, sometimes fairly, sometimes not.

Most likely due to the girl not wanting to be a witness. It would be nigh on impossible to bring a successful prosecution if you didn't have the victim willing to give evidence.

It happens a lot in domestic violence/abuse type cases.

Be interesting to see if ManU take him back (I think it's probably unlikely).

However another Prem team will take him, as he was/is a very good footballer.
