Britt Assombalonga

Other than he was actually ok at scoring headers if unmarked and within 8 yards, spot on. I think he got 1 assist in his time here, didn't close down intelligently, didn't run in behind often, rubbish at link up play
He hardly ever got in position to score headers - so he wasn't ok at scoring headers

Well he certainly did the last 2 years, first two years he was hot (against the poor sides) and cold (against the decent ones). Viewed through the lens ofthe record championship signing at the time, then I think it isn't far from the truth
to be fair look at who his managers were.. woodgate and pulis.. then compare it to akpom who looked poor with warnock as his manager.. now look at him

What I’d also be interested in, in those 48 games how many goals did we score, what was our xg etc in those 48 games.

I can imagine our ability to create in games against better teams under Pulis and Warnock was very limited
So go look.
He was an awful footballer and has gone down hill since he left us.

Play to his strengths???
What strengths?

His best ever season at Championship level or above is 15.
Has nobody ever been able to "play to his strengths"? Or is that what playing to his strengths gets you.
He is garbage.

Oh I agree he hardly got into the position, he just had an ok finishing rate when he did 17/18season he got 6 headers, couple of neat finishes, couple of easy ones
Poachers instinct a skill coming through on those

To watch some of those goals and say he has no technical ability amazes me really

How many strikers score more than 15 goals in championship? 20 goal strikers are rare to come by

He's the record goalscorer at the Riverside, so clearly not.
That's largely because he hung around long enough in the same league, ie nobody else wanted him even at an average price and with those wages, with little competition for a long time for his place who could actually get a game ahead of him, in part down to crap other options such as Gestede and crap managers such as the Monk. So he played the vast majority of games in a season, with seasons involving 46 games, not 38, against champo opposition, which puts all our strikers who played at Prem level (half of our Riverside history) at a major major disadvantage of achieving such an accolade, as well as a lot of our champo ones who got us up under AK or didn't play for us as long. In other words the overwhelming majority of them.

I'm sure I could probably run further in 2 1/2 minutes than Usain Bolt could in 40 seconds.

He's not the "biggest pile of shoite" to play for us. But he was a pi$s poor bit of business and bang average at best. I'm certainly not quaking in my boots over Watford's latest acquisition.

Of course that didn't help but not being able to do the fundamentals was down to him, Akpom still looked like he had a decent touch even when he wasn't playing that great

not enough in the modern game, you have to have out of possession work rate, and a decent touch. He does find space within 8 yards between the sticks, but at the same time, decent defenders have the awareness to minimise that, which is why he struggles against decent players.

He was better than two in the same side, Gestede and Fletcher.
well that's a low bar, to be fair Fletcher had a good season 19/20 and was the better of the two that season. I'd argue that Fletcher being injured most of 20/21 had a better positive effect than Britt dialing it in for a season and getting 5 goals.

👏 spot on.

That's nonsense it's 48 games against half decent defenders and he scored as many goals as planting a wheelie bin 8 yards out would score. His problem is he has poor technical and tactical ability, so he can't create space for himself with the ball at his feet. Once he blew his knee he couldn't run in behind very often either, so he is totally reliant on defenders switching off and the perfect ball being supplied. Decent defenders rarely switch off, which is why he can score 4 vs a Turkish tier 3 team, but score 3 in 48 games vs decent championship sides. It'll always be the way for him, because he lacks the technical and tactical ability.
My wheelie bin scored 9 and he used to double up as a set of cricket stumps in the summer. He moved up and down the drive when required. Britt couldn't manage that.

I think he was a decent enough player, but he was never going to be good value and give a proper return on a £16m fee, plus salary.

He looked fantastic under Monk, but awful at time under Pulis.

t was an expensive gamble that didn't pay off and evidence, if any were needed, that we should never repeat this route again.
