Places to eat in Amsterdam-cafe

We’re doing a mini cruise to Amsterdam in March so looking for a nice little cafe to eat lunchtime. Ideally close to the centre but not touristy if possible.
We are going purely to have a nice walk about, a few local beers and generally enjoy ourselves. Not into the smoking/spacecake culture so must be safe, but with nice small plates food. Veggie options also. Cheers.
Also, pub/bar recommendations that won’t be full of Stags. Many thanks

Whiskey Cafe L&B is one of my favourite bars in the world. Doesn’t just sell whiskey. Definitely won’t be full of stags.

One of my memories of Amsterdam was going to one of the Indonesian restaurants there and having the "rice table" which was a great sample of a number of dishes.
A riisj tafel is always one my favourite things to do in Amsterdam. In answer to the original question I've always found Prinsengracht awash with good cafes.

We're having a long weekend in June. It's an interesting place - not all spacecake and sex shows.

try an area just to the west of the city centre called the Jordaan. It is only a few minutes from the Westkerk/Anne Frank Huis but, for whatever reason, tourists don't find their way there so much.

Little terraced streets and small corner cafés etc. It was an inner city working class neighbourhood until the 70s/80s.

Head for the street running through the middle called Tweede Tuindwarsstraat and you will find something in the streets or on the Egelantiersgracht canal itself if you approach from the Westkerk side.

That sounds good. How long is the walk from central Damm square ?
15 to 20 mins walk max ..... set your route for Dam Square-Westkerk-Jordaan, and you will pass dozens of small cafés etc.

If you don't want to walk back, the trams go from in front of Westkerk to the Centraal Station - at least one passes just behind Dam Square I think.

good call. I lived in the Jordan for a few years. Try the bars in the Brouwersgracht, Lindengracht, Pinsengracht area. All good and some real classics too. If you are coming from Centraal Station, turning into Brouwersgracht is a wonderful experience.
If you did fancy a small partaking of the herb, try Siberië on Brouwersgracht. Organic gear and very friendly and relaxed. Had some wonderful afternoons playing chess with complete strangers; well we both stared at the board with intent…

Been Googling last couple of hours. It looks perfect for us. We will be there on a Wednesday so hoping there will be some sort of Local Flea Market on. Local beers, local food, locals. Right up my Strasse.

Lindengracht market is only on Saturdays.
De Kat and Thijssen both famous cafe bars, as is Cafe Tabac and the one opposite, the magnificent Papeneiland.
