Brain Drain

Seems like it. Brexit has made us porrer not just in financial terms, but culturual ones too
It was always about making "us" poorer, and by "us" I mean working class people.

It was always about making the rich richer by getting working class people to focus on immigrants and those receiving benefits as being the reason why people weren't better off both financially and socially.

classic right wing slight of hand.

Yeah. And it's sad how many working class people are still supporting it. Tragic

The higher education businesses won't be too bothered about that. All about bums on seats and there are plenty of Asians with deep pockets filling the places.
I am not sure what the situation is now, with students paying fees. When I went to uni, lecturers were covetted for the reasearch grants they could attract and teaching was a very distant second.

Not sure about the veracity of that model

Never mind a Covid Pandemic it feels like a Stockholm Syndrome pandemic. Lambs happilly being led to slaughter.. and mocking those telling them not to go that way.

Wasn't there an article posted here last year regarding British students not being able to afford or offered places at EU universities?

We have wiped away the opportunities and experiences of all our citizens to make the likes of Reece Mogg richer.
I am not sure "we" have Norman. Johnson and his government have.

Back in the day I received a grant to study. The education system didn't have to worry about making money.

Now universities employ a large department solely concerned with increasing finance. It's more profitable to sell places to wealthy families than provide a scholarship for less well off locals.

Yeah this was largely my point. I know the older model helped you and I. However, did it improve the standard of education? Dunno, probably not. Does the new funding model improve it. I have no idea, your reply seems to suggest not.

On your point about we elected the current government. We did, that much is true. I am not sure how many folks that voted for them expected the bonfire of EU integrations thouhgh. I do suspect some didn't care about some of the aspects, but would care about other aspects.

**** governance has got us where we are.

An uneducated working class is less dangerous than an educated one. The changes to the education system were made a long time ago, for me the change has worked and is benefitting those it was designed to suit.

When did the change happen. I remember they started phasing out maintenance grants around 1998/99. This may mean it was Blair's idea. Surely not given he was elected on the back of education, education, education? I know tories introduced the fee structure, not sure about grants though.

My point being, this may not be tory legislation. I don't know, to be fair.
