* The Unofficial "Official" "Wear-Tees Derby: Sunlun v Boro Match-Day Thread *

Well I have given Steffen the benefit of the doubt so far this season, hoping that he would improve but can’t see us getting promoted with him in the team. The early cockup seemed to unsettle the team and we stopped playing out from the back and just launched it long. He gets beaten too often on the near post and, when he does make a save, he pushes it straight back into the danger area (e.g. the one in the first half and even the penalty save) rather than pushing it away from goal for a corner or to the wings. Hope I’m proven to be wrong and he does learn but, at the moment I wouldn’t fancy him in the playoffs, if we did get there.

Just reflecting on the first half, I'd like to hear Carrick's thoughts. We've had some fairly average first halves but it didn't even seem like we were trying to pose a threat?

With it being his first derby in charge, I wonder if he felt we could keep it tight until half time and have a go second half?

In which case it was working (just about) until any semblance of a fair competition was ended with the penalty decision.

Must be something seriously wrong with Jones. Might have done a better wing job than Forss but clearly Carrick cant rely on him like he used to.

Id also like to point out that the criticism of the time on here is way over the top.
We lose ONE game and some posters think we are **** and need wholesale changes.

Bit rubbish start to finish.
Squad needs a bit of work imo. And now Carrick has reason to start making some changes.

Can't really argue with result.
They had at least four good chances to our single one even before the sending off.
Just not at it today.
Totally agree but our keeper.
Not for me like….
Terrible decision first half and for the sending off. Where the fcuk was Steffen ?
I mean….if he’d been out and smothered Stewart Shyte first touch then the ref would’ve waved any appeal away
Steffen got fry sent off with his indecisive thinking
Steffen is a barrier to promotion and certainly not a conduit!!!

Agree steffans casualness is a problem it gave them hope and put them on the front foot. I would have another keeper signed in the summer.

Utter nonsense

I don’t think that gets given as a pen or sending off in the premier league with VAR. Both players have their arms across each other - Stewart wins himself a pen in a way Ronaldo would have been proud of.
Having said all that we were well of the pace today. Some players are starting to tire a little i think, Howson being the obvious one. We need a couple of lads to bolster those midfield options.

Aaaannnndddd, the board has reverted to its worst version again after today.

I know its a massive disappointment to lose today, but we were always going to have a more difficult period under Carrick, never mind a single defeat, let's have a little bit of perspective - we're still in the top 6 and I'd back us to finish there too.

Fry and Hackney were both massively culpable for the two conceded goals, and Fry almost gave another one away in the first half when he totally missed his header.

Steffen is getting pelters.

After saving a one on one and the initial penalty that Fry conceded.

🤷‍♂️
