Train special for Sunderland

It hasn't been advertised, god knows why. There is a football special running from Middlesbrough station to St Peters(nr SoL) on Sunday. Leaves Boro at 1010, arr St Peters 1100. Returns St Peter at 1441 arr Boro 1530.

Direct on the way there, albeit making unadvertised service stops (whatever they are) at Hartlepool and Sunderland: link

Same on the way back, but with a scheduled stop at Stockton: link

They used to throw trains like this on in the 80s, if you are going to the match via scheduled trains you can forget about it, the police will use some public order law to stop mostly young lads from boarding normal trains and then put them on all this one. If you find yourself on it hope you enjoy the heavy-handed policing.

I went on a football special to Birmingham in the 70's as a kid.
Forced into a police escort, and the police were braying Boro fans just for chanting.
Quite an experience.

09:30am train for us. Hoping that it stops at St Peters too, although it's not scheduled to so may have to walk from the city centre.

Got some details about this - fault with communications was Northern Rail - they didn't let anyone know.

Anyway - 1st train leaves 9.30am
2nd - direct train leaves at 10.10am and has a 400 capacity - it will arrive at St Pauls 10.57am - 10 min walk from there to turnstiles. SIX turnstiles open.
Return trains - special leaves St Peter's at 14:41 - police and stewards will ensure everyone makes that.
Next train has been diverted to stop at St Peter's at 14:48pm - normal service back to Teesside.
After that next train is departing from Sunderland Station 15:57 (not from St Pauls) all the normal stops towards Teesside.

Boro have just been given all this info and will be publicising it tomorrow.

The special leaves at 10:10, Rob, not 10:30.

Got a Special from Middlesbrough to OT in August 1980.
Honestly thought we would win, got dumped 3-0.
Worst way I can ever remember going to a Boro away match.
Things have changed since 1980 though. Although not all the rolling stock or the pay.
This is special because it goes non stop Middlesbrough to Stadium of Light - has a 400 capacity and afterwards picks you up at the metro station outside the stadium and takes you back to Middlesbrough direct.
