Ken Bruce announced this morning he is packing in his show on R2 after hosting the show for 31 years.

I like his show and it is just not the same when someone else stands in. Absolutely loved the piano room sessions.

I always switch off Vine comes on.

The 71-year-old said: "I would stress that this is entirely my decision but some new opportunities have come up and I would like to continue my career in a slightly different way in the next few years."
In a subsequent statement issued by Greatest Hits Radio, Bruce said Popmaster would feature in his new programme, which will run from 10:00-13:00 and will begin on 3 April.

It didn't mention that bit earlier on the above link but does now. It looks like I will be switching to Greatest Hits Radio in April.

I wish these people would just say that they have been offered more money elsewhere.
Not always the case, Radio stations rejig constantly. Radio X have just had a massive shake up and I bet the people who lost the more popular spots didnt receive a pay rise elsewhere, they have basically been demoted.

Greatest Hits Radio is becoming more like R2 of old with Simon Mayo already recreating his Drivetime show there. Guess I'll be spending even more time listening to it now that there is nothing on R2 to entice me.

I can't remember when I last heard Radio 2 but I do consider it's for oldies.
When I was a lad my parents had it on all the time. This was before the days of Radio 5 and sport was on Radio 2.

In those days the staples were the Charlie Chester Show, Overseas Family Favourites and Sing Something Simple with the Mike Samm singers. Proper older station. They even had their own soap - Waggoners Walk.

Now we are at that age it doesn’t seem so old. They play up to date but quite middle of the road stuff. Lots of George Ezra, James Bay, Adele and Ed Shearan.
