German fans at our game yesterday

Please tell me more - it is good to hear foreign fans attending our games.
Yeah, in hindsight I wish we'd gone over and spoken to them but we were just passing through at the time and noticed them.

I think the name of the club started with an A but just can't remember.

They were very fanatical and at one point it sounded like they were singing something about Boro in German.

what’s the story then? Have boro fans been to watch Oberhausen or whatever there teams called, it it a rite of passage?

I was in the fan zone when they were singing , but far away enough to not know what they were singing ,thought they were red faction lads , some big fellas amongst them

I met a German fan of Boro when in Eindhover. In fact he sold my mate a ticket for the final after he joined us in a pub.He told me he had been across Europe watching us and had been to the Riverside several times.
He had seen a program a German program that was called the club that wouldn't die. It was all about us going under and being saved by Steve Gibson. It followed us going up from Div 3 to 1 and focused a lot on Pally.
I'm still in touch with him by e mail and he had said he was coming over with a few mates. His name was Dieter.

As much as that’s a nice story for Boro fans, I’ll never quite understand what attracts fans to support clubs in another country. Obviously I welcome his support, I just don’t quite get it!

There's a few Oberhausen stickers around the town and I noticed some yesterday. I went to see Rot-Weiß Oberhausen play in November and, funnily enough, I was wearing my RWO scarf at the game yesterday but this is nothing to do with me.

He just said the story the way it was told intrigued him. When he went to his first game he was hooked. He reckoned we celebrated differently to other clubs in the games he went to. He said when teams score in big games their fans jump up and down shout scream and cheer and clap. He said when he first saw us score everyone went mental and went off in different directions not knowing what they are doing. I have seen this since he mentioned it when tv cameras are watching us. He also liked that when we beat Liverpool in the cup semi strangers were leaping on him and made him feel like he was from here afterwards in the celebrations...
He was more gutted than us after the game in Eindhoven.
