Will Isaiah reach his potential at boro?

I really hope you’re right Andy but Traore was a different beast.
Oh I agree, Traore was a different kettle of fish, but he was in his 5th season or so of pro football, and his third season with us, playing at a level lower than the level we signed him for.

I was praising Traore from day one and maintained that before Pulis used him properly when lots of people were saying he shouldn't be playing. Loads we still slagging him off when his ratings were the best in the league, and I was defending him week in week out. Was funny mind, as when we came to sell him, those who were slagging him off were saying we should have got more money or he should have stayed  Or they were saying his buy out clasue should have been higher, but why would it have been higher if they didn't rate him? It was clear he had massive potential and was always going to have a reasonable buy out so he could step up, as soon as that chance came. He went to the wrong club though, and Wolves shackled him with defensive duties and made him waste his energy on defending, when they should have let him sit on the halfway line conserving energy until the other players got the ball back.

Jones just needs time, and to play in a position which suits. Carrick doesn't really have time, and doesn't need to play Jones, and changing the formation/ style to suit him is not worth it, as evidenced by our great league results. He'll be working on him in the background though, no doubt about that and he will probably feature more and better later in the year. If he does he'll be good next year in this league, and maybe even the one above if we get there. Or we may loan him out to develop more, or he'll be on the bench behind an established player.

I couldn't disagree with this more Andy. I never sagged him off and thought he was neither as bad nor as good as some people thought. He certainly hasn't improved any since he left and has never managed to get many assists out goals other than a purple patch in 2019-2020.

He is OK but largely ineffective.

Lets see if a premier league club takes a punt on him , I really like him , and he has had reported interest in the past , so maybe a bid will come in for him soon . £10m and he will go . The going rate for young English forwards . AFCB, Palace , Brentford , WHU , Southampton, Wolves , Leeds , bottom half premier teams may take a punt.

Form is temporary..........etc.
Is that another way of saying sometimes shyte players have a little hot streak that makes them look better than they are? I think it's called Cadamarteriitus.

Not saying Isiah is shyte, more overhyped. He'll do well to see his career out at this level I think he'll probably be a League One player within 2 years. Too many faults to his game to rectify them all and get the consistency he needs to play at the level we require

That's really interesting mart. I don't agree, I think he may well improve and play at a higher level than the second tier. He does have some faults, absolutely but I would expect them to reduce over time. He has the natural ability for me.

It is impossible to know. However, the "faults" that people are noticing are "coachable" they can be corrected with coaching. Of course that depends on two things; the correct coaching and the willingness to learn. No one on here can know or judge either of those things and sometimes it comes down to the chemistry between coach and player.

Jones is far from the failure that some on here seem keen to prophesy, he has undoubtedly contributed to the team this season with both goals and assists, he has also contributed in terms of being a threat that opposition sides are focussed on nullifying. He is a young inexperienced player and the attributes he has suggest to me that he will continue to contribute to our season.

would love to be wrong on this, time will tell, needs some good 1-to-1 coaching and a real dedicated attitude to get that consistency

All faults are coachable to some degree or other. OK you can't turn Lee Dong Gook into prime Ronaldo, but he could have been coached to be a better player and reduce his faults.

I don't think anyone is prophesisng him as a failure. He's going t make a career as a pro, that is in itself a huge success in relation to where he was 3 years ago. As has been said about players before he can be anything from a prem star to scraping around the lower leagues. None of us really know. I'd say the last 6 months has seen him closer to the later than the former, but of course it's possible to turn that around with hard work and a good attitude. He has some natural advantages, lots of fast twitch leg muscles giving him quick feet and speed off the mark.

Physically he has lots of natural advantages that enable him to execute a sprint, dribble, run, but to get the most from that it's about the tactical skills (making the right decisions) and the psychological skills (being brave enough to keep trying the right things), that's what makes a good player, along with social skills of working on the training pitch with coaches and teammates well.

Hopefully he can start to show a bit more over the next few games.

Wonder if we've had an offer for him and we've pulled him out the squad to stop him being injured? .......love a conspiracy.

Was anyone listening to BBC Tees build up, did Maddo mention anything about him being inured or surpised hes not in the squad?

Very good player on his day, alot to ask he performs as well as he did in the middle of last season.
That said he's been very poor this season

He was a flash in the pan. Back end of last season and all of this one he’s been absolutely terrible apart from the odd flash
Could be. He had a great two months last season, he was raw, but created the key moments in matches. But you have to look at his overall game, in possession, out of possession, positive and negative transitions, technical ability, tactical ability, physical abilities, psychological ability and social. That's a far better indication of where he will end up in the game.

Yes he can have excellent moments, but he also loses the ball a lot makes poor decisions, doesn't track runners and dives in. There is a raw talent there but a lot of flaws.

I see this very much like when Lewis Wing scored a couple of good goals and everyone focussed on that, not on the whole of his game. Look how that turned out, loads of Boro fans complained that he wasn't being trusted by managers, and given an opportunity, but it was fairly clear if you studied his game to any depth, that he simply didn't have the physical or tactical ability of a second tier footballer. I think Jones has a higher potential than Lewis Wing, but he could easily drop back to tier 5 too for multiple reasons.

I suspect he was dropped today because Hoppe has shown better commitment to learn and work hard in training, regardless of what the story is from Carrick on why he wasn't in the squad. Carrick as a player was professional, set him self high standards, and was committed to his profession, if he feels a player isn't setting those same training standards, then he won't pick them.
