Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Spent a lot of time in Brussels and am stunned anybody can be fond of it.
It is incredible how differently we view places - even across the same people!

We are drawn to different criteria. For me it is setting and natural. For others it is human history, architecture, culture, based around people.
Nobody is wrong, we all just have different perspectives.
I do think who you were with and what you did massively forms the memory of a place.
Agree with all that. I don’t understand what there is to dislike about Brussels but fair enough.

Wow. I’ve never been to Hawaii but I disagree with all the others on your list. Rio in particular I loved.

..and LA is such a difficult place to hate, given its size and variety.

For example Beverley Hills / Rodeo Drive or some of the Canyons are amazing, it's just that to get anywhere you have to spend ages in a car on the freeway, which is why people typically dislike it.

Randy Newman loves the place and highlights it in this VERY 80's video:-

Washington DC..... Many of the places were closed. People working outside them said it was due to lack of maintainance and funding that some places were closed.. Too much walking as the tube system wasn't great and quite a distance from places we wanted to visit
Lots of strange people wanting you to stop and listen to their conspracy theories , some were a bit aggressive.
Felt really unsafe at night.

Melbourne Cricket Ground. I found it to be just a modern, utilitarian sports stadium. No charm, no glamour, no sense of history.

Yes but what I would say is 2 nights in LA (which lots of people do) is never enough as you don’t experience any of the variety. You need over a week really, which a lot of people don’t want to dedicate to it.

I know so many people who dislike LA and when you ask them how long they were there, quite often they just flew into LAX and drove straight out. So they’re judging it on the highways basically, or maybe one night stay in a motel. Not saying Indeedido did that though.

Brighton - tacky and dirty.
Canberra - an 8 hour round trip from Sydney to see some modern Government Buildings.
Tunbridge Wells - The Pantiles are not worth the drive.

Brussels was nice for a weekend but the greatness of the beer was matched by the sh1teness of the food, unless you want fries 3 times a day.

Cancun, meant to be some sort of amazing night out but it was ****, and seemed quiet  I did my research too, but nope, was cack.

Bali, it's not as nice as people make out, apart from the Gili Islands, but they're still not that great. There's better places closer to home, which are not full of Aussies stuffing their faces on $100 lobster, being tossers to the staff earning $10 a day.

Can't believe how many are saying Vegas is bad, but if you don't like gambling/ casino's then don't go? Or if you like nights out, and doing things, then do some research on where to go and when, as there's countless options.

Not sure why others are complaining about luxury islands being crap off resort/ out the hotel, surely everyone knows this is the case, for most places? If you're going to one of those places just think of it like you're going to the hotel only, as a lot of them are largely just that, but the weather and hotels are ace.

Not sure why people complain about LA either. Everyone knows it's a concrete jungle, and pretty rough in most places, or rough to get to them and tons of traffic etc. There are still some great places to go, and great nights out if you do some research. There's tons to do in Cali too, it's my favourite state in the US.

Paris/London/NY, wouldn’t ever go back

NC500 is worth a mention as well, far too busy to enjoy

Fratton park in their first season in the Premier league, I thought the small capacity would hinder the atmosphere, it was electric from start to finish.

A great art gallery and war museum in Canberra 👍
Good view from Mount Ainslie as well 👀

Another vote for Honolulu and also Bondi Beach. I was also a bit underwhelmed by Philadelphia (didn't help that the Rocky Steps were closed for the NFL Draft outside broadcast) .

Without doubt top vote for me goes to Phi Phi Island. The most overcrowded, overhyped, disappointing tourist trap I've ever been to.
