Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Im not sure what the OP was expecting from NY but sounds like he didn’t enjoy himself. All depends on the overall experience of the visit I guess. I went to Las Vegas first in 1980 and was dazzled by the place with amazing memories including the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

A couple of more equally good visits in the 90s but went back again in 2011 and couldnt wait to get away. Now whether that is because the City had changed for the worse or I changed I don’t know - I suspect the latter.

The Cheddar Gorge, admittedly we only drove through it.. I just expected it to be longer, it just seemed to be a, short, road between two rocky hillocks..

I anticipated at least a mile, maybe 2.. & a good bit higher & more imposing..

Try cycling up it. You will then hate the place but glad it wasn’t that long . 😀

Wembley ( the old one)
Sorrento. Great as a base but basically it's an Italian Scarborough .
Mykanos. Soulless europop resort

Dominican Republic. Was 35 years ago mind, but it was basically a hotel pool in a fenced off complex and we were only allowed out on accompanied trips. When we went on a few, the utter poverty of the people living in corrugated shacks, compared to our air conned coach was just awful to see. And then when you looked down from the coach into passing vehicles, many lorry drivers had shotguns by their side.
