We are in no rush to throw a 3-4 year deal at him. We have the option of a further year and if he continues in his current form he will rightly earn that improved longterm deal.

He's in the purple patch of his career and he's 27 (?) . I would be stunned if a number of prem clubs haven't checked out his previous goal scoring exploits. I can't believe Everton are thinking 'he's the answer to our problems'. Although recalling Simms shows they are in a bit of trouble.

I doubt we are remotely thinking of selling him. Carrick said in a pre Xmas presser that he was relaxed about Howson / Watmore and Akpoms contracts and talks are taking place. I'd add Smith to that the way he's playing.

He seems relaxed and happy and is playing really well. A few weeks back he said in an interview on the Boro website that Carrick is the best manager he's worked with as he's playing his best football ever under him.

After years of loans and being farmed out here and there he seems to enjoy feeling like he belongs somewhere. I'd be massively suprised if he doesn't want that to continue. If a new deal is offered here I'd say he'd sign it.
 
I think Akpom would be crazy to push for a move, unless a crazy wage is offered. He is 27 and never been a consistent regular starter at a club. He has that now and is feeling the love which is contributing to his form.

Think Boro should offer a new decent, not bank busting, contract to suit all parties.

Also if i was Akpom id be wary of pushing for a move, he seems to have stumbled into a system and style that suits him, that might not be replicated elsewhere. After all, he looked like a fish up a tree playing different tactics under different managers.
