Boro v Carlisle, 1974 pre season Texaco Cup fixture, which we lost 1-0 😔

Unfortunately, if I wanted to put the classic action shot in my photo album Im unable to keep the whole 2 page photo, with Maddren & Mills, as its stuck to the back cover of the book, shame really, great action shot of great players & at the holgate end too

Balderstone, Neale, Botham, Ramage, Helmsley, Cumbes, Sidebottom, Compton - and many more, no doubt, but now a lost breed, alas.

I got Encyclopedia of British Football as a kid in 1977 and remember being incredibly excited when this photo of Jim Platt was on back cover. Game is v Ipswich that much I know but it seems a wierd photo to pick as it looks to me as if Platt has mis judged this punch

It's Alan Hunter the NI CH challenging Jim Platt, Kevin Beattie & the player facing Platt looks like George Burley, I could be mistaken
Would love that photo in my collection

The sad thing these days you can't order action shot photos from the gazette, only tearing shots

I loved that Carlisle kit. Sad to think they'd just been promoted to the top flight (alongside Boro and Luton) and were about to start their solitary year in the First Division (I think Luton also went straight back down?)
