I was in a lift with Tony Mowbray today.

Victoria car park Leeds. Only realised just as we were getting out. He motored off through John Lewis. Saw him a bit later wandering into Flannels, seemingly in the tow of his missus (I hope it was his missus).
He wasn't as tall as I had imagined. I didn't bother him like, even if I kind of wanted to let him know he's a hero. Pointless thread this, I know. Maybe other tales of spotting Boro heroes at the shops.

Not quite spotted at the shops, but in my younger days I used to work at a bar in Boro which a few of the Boro players used to go to from time to time - Brad Jones / Rhys Williams being the main ones.

I thought Brad Jones was a typical arrogant Aussie. Never really warmed to him.

Rhys was a really nice guy though, and often stopped to have a chat if I ever seen him out and about or at away games when he wasn’t playing.

One international break weekend, Franck Queudrue came in with them. At work, staff and regulars often stayed back after close for a few drinks. So I had the pleasure of having an hour chat and a few beers with Franck (who is still one of my favourite ever Boro players!).

It was in Southgate days when he had joined Birmingham and they had been relegated. He slated their chairman quite a lot as he publicly blamed him and some other signings for their relegation. We also talked about final at Cardiff, European games etc. Good guy though!

Looking back now though, I’d probably cringe at what I said as a younger version of me! 😆

I met Mogga at Heathrow Terminal 5 some years ago on a weekday January morning when he was managing us. I was with the missus and was absolutely star struck. I said to her it’s not that he’s the manager, he was my absolute hero as a kid, I used to watch him from the front steps of the holgate end, he took us from the brink of destruction right up to the top flight, he was the captain and a wonderful bloke and I will always, always love him. She couldn’t believe how it affected me and she forced me to go and say hello. He was totally brilliant, kind and lovely and introduced me to Neil Bauser who was getting the coffees in and they talked about their scouting mission to Sweden.

It really struck me as I said hello that footballers and managers have absolutely no idea what’s coming next, whether I was going to moan or have a go at him or whatever. I saw that for a fleeting second in his eyes. I’m still a bit embarrassed that I went over but glad I did as he was so genuine and lovely. And I hope he saw the love in my ugly mug that we all have for him.

On the topic of not-as-tall-as-i-thought-he'd-be, I walked past Phil Thompson and his Mrs on Hanover Street in Liverpool...not as tall as you would think

I once chewed Malcolm Christie’s ear off for an hour from Heathrow to Teesside back when he played for us. I wouldn’t normally do that but I’d had a few beers. The thing is, I was only befriending him to get closer to his gorgeous girlfriend 😍. He was a very nice guy like.

I've been in a lift with Malcolm Christie 👍

Hahaha, I guess you work all over world @borolad259, but I fondly imagined you on your laptop in a log cabin in Lapland talking to your ex-military mate by satellite phone to get The End updates. Not Leeds 😄

I saw ken Livingston come out of a lift once. He was about the same size you'd expect. On the other hand I saw jack straw on some stairs once. He was about an inch shorter than you'd expect. Though it was hard to judge as he was on stairs.
Do you think you were shorter or taller than Ken Livingstone and Jack Straw expected.

I’ve been in a lift with Victor Spinetti.

He was a bout the height I expected, though did look younger than I thought he should.

I've ignored both Charltons, Frank Worthington, Emlyn Hughes, Terry MacDermott, Dave Bassett and Suzi Mitzi (not known for her ball skills tmk)
I'm rubbish with celebs.
Talked Gary Palisters ears off in the Tall Trees but he was stuck with me and neither could escape.

I don't like meeting famous people. It's awkward.

And the wife really upset Peter Beardsley.
She asked for his autograph, because she knew he was a footballer, but wasn't sure who.
Then she couldn't read his writing, so asked him what he'd written. (He didn't like that).
Then she couldn't understand what he'd said, so asked his friend to explain.
(He didn't like that)
Then she came back, saying she'd got it for me.
(I didn't like that)
