david baddiel - racist bullying & humiliation of Jason Lee

I've made my opinions about Baddiel pretty clear on here before and it upset a few people at the time. He's made a career out of hanging around with people who are funnier and/or more talented than he is. I did the same thing, and I'm happy to admit to that. The bloke is a massive bellend. He even accused Corbyn of being an Anti-Semite because of the way he pronounced Epstein's name. That's how ridiculous the bloke is.

I read a paper a few years ago about racism in the UK and anti-Semitism was way lower on the scale than anti black or anti Muslim prejudice. It was compared in size to anti Sikhism which was almost non existent. This of course, was published before AS was weaponised against Corbyn and his followers.

To claim that today, there is a shortage of discussion on the subject is ridiculous; we hear about it every week in MSM and daily on social media.

Agree, I think Badiel is right in what his saying about antisemitism being dismissed by many as less serious than other forms of racism
Dismissed by whom?

Every example I've seen of "the left" being antisemitic has been proven to be misrepresented. For example, the Labour party was accused of leaving Jews out of a Holocaust leaflet. It turned out to be (A) a completely different organisation and (B) a leaflet specifically about other forgotten groups targeted by the Nazi's. It's like saying Match of the Day are anti-Boro because they don't show our highlights.

I haven't really ever heard any anti-semitism in my normal life...
I was pretty shocked when I was hearing about how much of a problem it is on TV etc over recent years. I ignorantly didn't think it existed anymore.
It wasn't a massive problem (in percentage terms) until someone decided it was the best weapon to use against Corbyn and the left. I'm sure there are antisemites in the UK and it would be extraordinary if some of them hadn't allied themselves to Corbyn for a whole host of statistical reasons, but the extent was deliberately overstated. The biggest problem now is that some of those that pushed it have tried to row it back somewhat and have found that it's run away from them. It would be funny if it wasn't so utterly tragic.

The #itwasascam 'movement' have repeatedly challenged individuals involved to share proof and, as far as I'm aware, nobody has managed so far. If it was so widespread I'd have thought it would be easy to provide concrete examples.

I can imagine there might have been issues in places like the HoC or an organisation based in London, just purely because there will be more Jews there than in rural North Yorkshire but I'll be honest, I don't know enough about it to really comment.

Weirdly I worked for 6 months in Gateshead where there is a very large Orthodox Jewish community. I would have imagined they got a fair bit of stick, mainly because they are so different culturally and how they look. I found it all very fascinating and learned from my colleagues about how they came to settle in such a large community there.

I really detest anti-semitism. I detest racism / persecution in all forms. Visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau a few years ago fundamentally changed me as a person. I wish that everyone could go and learn from that dreadful place.

As you may know, I'm watching the news and politics pretty much all day every day, but I don't see much of a mention of AS. That might be because it isn't discussed as DB says, or it might be that there isn't much of it about.

It would be interesting to see a paper / report on the levels of it now.

I do wonder if AS is more of a middle / upper class issue rather than a working class one? That could be why we have seen it in politics etc but I don't witness it in the pubs like I do with racism against black and Asians?

I'll leave that there anyway as I have already said I don't really know enough about it to debate / discuss other than my personal experiences. I'll read and learn.

yeah if you watch frank skinner on his own its clear that was most of good stuff from fantasy football league , although you can go through alot of his stuff as well and pick out stuff that wouldnt go down well now

It was front and centre for the period between the 2017 and 2019 elections.

It was one of the few attack-lines that stuck against Corbyn and is a difficult subject to approach from the left due to concerns around Israel/Palestine hovering around the edges of what is and what isn't antisemitism (no hyphen btw).

A number of Labour MPs stuck the boot in - notably Margaret Hodge and Ruth Smeeth (both Jewish) - and there has been a continuing campaign against the left of Labour with a number of people being expelled. One obvious question that arises is why are some of the people being expelled high-profile left-wing Jews?

Both Hodge and Smeeth are now complaining publicly that the Campaign Against Antisemitism (an NGO focusing on the subject) is unfairly targeting Labour now that the lefties have been booted out. They're struggling to square the circle without admitting the whole thing was made-up (or hugely exaggerated for effect).

Most studies show that antisemitism (along with racism in general) is much more prevalent in Tory circles but as no-one expects any better, it gets brushed under the carpet and stays out of the headlines.

As to your last question, I don't think AS is a class issue. The working class hard-right are still quite vocal about Jews owning/running everything. It follows the same logic as the immigrants simultaneously taking all our jobs and coming over here to sit on benefits. Schrodinger's Racism.

It's been seen in politics because it was effective against Corbyn where other smears weren't (and again there was a whole host of Schrodinger style accusations levelled at him e.g. architect of Brexit and ineffective on Brexit; a minnow on the World Stage and an unseen hand manipulating everything behind the scenes). Once you realise that the accusations had no grounding in reality it all starts to make sense.

Agree with this. There was people claiming he'd reopen Auschwitz and was a threat to Jewish life in Britain and at the same time people slating him for being a pacifist and claiming he'd abolish the armed forces.

And yet every Jewish person that I know, apart from the few who have no interest in politics were Corbyn supporters and were disgusted by all of the lies and smears from the press and from the right of the party.

I didn't appreciate this at the time, but it really was very wrong. It probably damaged Jason Lees career.
Would they have singled him out of he was white?
it's hard to come up with many examples of that. Funny looking white kids? Dowie, Windass. There are some, but it's not the same put into context
