Michael Carrick

I was so certain that Wilder was the right man at the time. I remember saying that my gut feeling was that it was the first time I'd genuinely believed we could get to the Premier League since Karanka was here.

I got it wrong though, so I'm trying to be cautious and not get too carried away with Carrick. I can't deny though that we've made a very positive start under his stewardship. The players look so much more relaxed. They're playing with genuine confidence and seem to be enjoying their football again.

Mans a genius! There I said it.
He's been a reveleation so afr, not just in the peroformances, but the way we are playing. We look balanced and composed - a proper team.

But then Wilder was equally impressive after the same amount of games and whilst I think Carrick is a very different type of manager and that he'll prove to be a far better appointment, I'm still not getting too carried away just yet!

I can imagine in the dressing room he's not a screamer and shouter and will genuinely put an arm around players and just tell them how good they are. Never looks particularly wound up when a pass goes astray etc. Can imagine it does wonders with this team.

Wilder was the total opposite and would happily chuck others under the bus.

What Carrick has done shows how poor Wilder was.

Carrick came in, no new faces, no pre season matches and lots of away games and has quickly turned things around. How did Wilder get it so wrong?
Probably because the players hated him and his way of playing

I’m getting carried away. This team are playing brilliantly and will only get better. Four points off the playoffs. Roll on the rest of the season. I’ve never known a Boro Manager so calm. It must rub off on the players. (y)

Fantastic start. 10 points out of 15 with 4 away games. Could easily have been 12 or possibly 13. Creating chances and scoring goals. Great stuff! Well done Carrick, the new coaches and all the players and fans. UTB!

Wilder was so one-dimensional, the only way he was going to have success playing with his system was having the right players for the right roles within the team.

Matt Clarke wasn't the answer playing as an overlapping centre halve, and Mowatt wasn't the answer playing as our box-to-box midfielder (although I believe Wilder still wanted him).

He certainly didn't do himself any favours with his refusal so give Forss a run in the team, who ironically would have been perfect for Wilder's system if he'd given him the chance, but he spat his dummy out and decided not to play him due to not getting the strikers he really wanted in my opinion.

Good managers can get the best out of what they have to work with, but Wilder's inflexibility and stubbornness meant it was only going to go one way.

Who’s Wilder? ;)

Wonderful stuff. What a refreshing attitude he has, this calm and considered approach. We do our talking on the pitch. We play some lovely stuff, we score goals, we look like we’re enjoying it and playing for each other. I absolutely love what he’s done so far. It IS early days, very early days, but we’re allowed to enjoy it aren’t we.

Honourable mention for Woody as well. Is it a coincidence that Carrick and Woodgate pitch up and the two centre backs start looking the part? It can’t be. Long may this continue.

Get in there Boro.
