Wilders Agent

Spoke to a fella who works at the agency that manages Wilder. Not his actual agent, but one from same group.

Prepare to take these comments with a huge pinch of salt!!!

- Tommy Smith was one of the few signings that CW actually wanted. (be aware Tommy managed by same agency!!)
- Boro owners are difficult to deal with (good, Gibbo not rolling over for agents as we know)
- Would not let him sign the strikers he wanted (no names mentioned, but given CW poor track record in that area, maybe no surprise? Also Forss not looking bad for a development signing!)
- CW was not bothered about leaving (er ok, good riddance then)

I liked Wilder and thought it was a match made in heaven. Whether it was the Burnley thing, the not getting his own way thing or his inflexibility in sticking to 3-5-2 when it was not working, I don’t know, but it went wrong and he had to go.

We’ve got Super Michael Carrick….

Also if Wilder wanted Gayle and the club wanted Forss then I'll back the club everytime over Wilders judgement of a player.

Was about 50/50 on here those that wanted Gayle and those that didn’t.

Hasn’t scored this season yet and it looks like the fact he hasn’t played regularly for a few years has finished him off and at his age there may be no coming back now. Would of been a disaster of a signing on huge wages.

Aye, Gayle and Mcgoldrick.....both would have been proper "Wilder striker" signings.🙄🙄

Happy with Forss and Hoppe, Chuba a revelation (bombed out under Wilder), Watmore being consistently inconsistent (😁) and Coburn waiting patiently.

Onwards and upwards 👍

IMHO, nothing to do with the Burnley link, in the end he just wasnt good enough

Whose that bloke he was chasing all summer, who eventually moved to anotber club & since failed to set the world alight

Wilders tenure will probably be filed under 'what could have been'.

For a while he looked like he was a perfect fit; good football, winning games & players performing, with a real buzz in the stands of what might be possible.

But I think it's widely accepted now that he saw us as a springboard for a better gig and that was his undoing, both with the players and significantly, the club.

And I think he'll regret his actions, because who would take him now? There was already question marks around his temperament after Sheff Utd, which has only been underlined now.

Think he'd started believing his own press somewhat. Wilderball was great but what happens when teams suss it out? Or you can't assemble the squad to execute it given the specific skill sets it requires? Clubs rarely have money and time. Some have neither.

Turned SU around and slowly established what he wanted and picked the players he needed over time. He was never getting that at boro with the attitude he took towards things. Contradictory and entitled.

I think it's clear his two forwards Mcgoldrick and Gayle. You have to say bullets well and truly dodged. So bravo to the Boro recruitment team 👍

I think they have about two goals between them this season. Also 2 year deals at respective clubs. Again definitely dodged. Although many on here were pretty much 'pay anything' for Gayles wages. So he's not the only one.

Wilder never wanted to be here for too long. Thank god the recruitment team didn't blow money on Wilder's short term signings and kept to the long term plan at the club.

If Tommy Smith was one of his signings, then that's a real strange one BTW. He hardly ever played him and doesn't suit a RCB or RWB role.

The results since Wilder left demonstrates that Wilder was at best, not as good as he thought he was or at worst, had simply lost the players because he was consistently looking for a way out. Leo managed to get better performances out of a side very low on confidence and Carrick has turned things right around with the same group of players.
