Blyth battery factory in doubt...

Been on the cards for a while now unfortunately. The government not giving them a 100 million grant that they had promised was the straw that broke the camels back. Was probably the right decision too as it would only have delayed the inevitable. Sad but these big projects are always a bit risky especially from a start up.

Always looked unviable this. Battery plants need to be near where they end up due to the difficulties of transporting them.

Britishvolt didn’t have a customer for the product, destined to fail. Meanwhile the battery plant at Sunderland is flying.

They're building a lithium processing plant at Wilton International, I wonder if the battery plant plans could be resurrected on Teesside?

No surprises really.. Wonder how the one in Billingham will go after Johnson Matthey were going to close it earlier this year
JM pulled out of 'battery technologies' market last year.

Think the last few bits were sold off last May.

Now owned by EV Metals who have their own mining facilities in Australia for all raw materials

As far as I am aware there is no work on this project in Teesside anymore. The lithium hydroxide plant can still go ahead it being built in the Freeport so assume most of it will go to Europe. Although the blyth plant going down may make them downsize especially in the short term. The blyth plant was going to be nearly 10x the size of Nissans battery.
