“Managed” or gradual decline

You are better than those comments Jedi!

I know it's frustrating. Not sticking with managers, the chop and change of both the coaches and the players. Clearly something needs to change, but it's probably mor in the leadership and how they pick the team management.

There is no such thing in football as managed decline, unless, of course, Gibson is looking to write off millions.
I don’t think you can argue that we have massive diluted the squad over the years.

I’ve said all season but that mf is frankly a disgrace.

Well done carrick saying what we all know it’s just not good enough hence why I’m now looking at options on the U23.

What are we paying in salaries compared to other clubs in the championship? That is the only metric that matters when comparing one clubs expenditure to anothers. Transfers tend to even themselves out.

So are we really cheap?
"On the cheap" = loanees / journeymen
Like
Mowatt
Clarke
Smith
Lenihan
Boyd-Munce
Luongo
Muniz
Steffan.

.......

None of those have been any improvement on what we`ve had before. [Maybe Steffan is slightly better than Lumley? - But hes doing well at Reading.]
I wont list all the names from Warnock onwards, but just to question whether the likes of Mendez-Laign / Ravell Morrison / Grant Hall / Neil Taylor / Connolly / Balogun / et al - actually improved the team?

Loanees are loanees because they dont fit / arent good enough or on the way out of their football careers.
Its not good - but thats where we`ve been at for some time.

I dont disagree there are problems with the squad. That isn't the same as managed decline. We are paying those players a load of money. I don't know but would bet we have a top 6 wagebill. That isn't managed decline. It may be mismanaged decline, of course.

Scary isn’t it.

The problem with older players like these are that they rarely if ever improve so you know the standard you’re going to get. Mowatt Luongo etc.

Carrick’s appointment does not need to be horrendous.

He needs accomplished coaches around him.

I’m still hopeful we will see incoming but not convinced……
The longer this goes on for the more concerned I'm becoming that it will be either Cattermole or Leadbitter. Surely Phelan would have agreed to come by now considering he's out of work.

See my comments above to Jedi, roofers. It isn't lack of money or doing it on the cheap. It may be mismanagement, but it aint proving cheap.

Just got on the board mate - so not really been following all the threads.
Its certainly not "cheap" when we see the damage this policy is causing the club.
Its "cheap" in that loanees can be recalled and arent a permanent fixture..
They arent a medium or long-term investment.
Its the patch-and-mend mentality.
Understandably, loan players dont always have the same committment and investment in the club / team.
Its like buying second - hand tyres - knowing they are good enough [for now], but they wont last long and they will have to be replaced.

Chin up lads. It's like a manic depressive convention in here. The team was on the edge of the playoffs last season. We don't have a brilliant squad but we're top half. Need to realise we have 5 subs now and close out games better. We've dropped 5 points in stoppage time where the opposition have had more fresh players in games. Stop doing that and we'll be fine.

It will be an even bigger rebuild job next summer. Steffen, Giles, Mowatt and Muniz will all return to their clubs. I think we will sell Jones in January to be honest. Howson will surely need replacing - he can't go on forever.

If we manage to stay up this season is anybody really confident we'll be able to assemble a squad capable of challenging for promotion next season, especially if we're to continue making "project" signings.
I think we’ll bring in 5 or 6 in January to lessen the scale of the job in the summer.

How many games after the window? We need to be strong in the final eight.. hopefully he could get a string of games together. a Sol Bamba type figure in training, on the bench maybe?
The coaching side I agree with mate.
Even our lass who has had a season ticket at OT since time began says he would never be out of the treatment room!
She agrees however, that he would make a good coach.

I think we’ll have too as it’s not just starters we need it’s that plan b as maddo said you look to the bench to ghdnge it and there simply nothing there change it up.

We’re painfully thin in midfield. Payero & Tavernier shipped out. Crooks injured
We have Howson, Hackney, McGree…… then Luongo and Mowett.

We’re patched up with an academy player and could do with another tbh!!

Is Stott not ready yet?

I wouldn't disagree with that. My main issue was the managed decline comment from Jedi. It surprises me from him. I don't believe for a minute that Gibson is letting the club fail bit by bit and accusing him of that isn't fair.

He may well be letting us down but it's not by design.

We've got Clarke and mcnair on the bench. Both solid championship players, mcnair can play in multiple positions, Clarke having won multiple player of the season awards. We have Bola and djiksteel, again very competent championship players. Up front watmore didn't play today, and we've got Forss and hoppe who still haven't been given a chance. And there's crooks who is injured. The only area we don't have options to change things is in wide areas up front. We have loads of options. Just need to use them. We've five subs. Not playing well? Change things at half time, bring 2 on. Last ten minutes get Bola, djiksteel on. Bring mcnair on for Howson. Loads of options.
