Carricks press conference 3pm

First and foremost we need a few points with the present squad of players to give us some breathing space before the World Cup. Then we can start to dream and plan. But looking at the table there is a lot of work to do on the training pitch and breath belief back into the players.
Yes that time gap is going to be vital to work on his ideas.

It basically a pre season.

Think Carrick comes across as a lovely bloke, and seems very genuine. I liked his honesty when he was asked how he’d found the last 11 months out of the game. None of the bog standard manager ‘the wife’s hated it, she will be glad I’m back in work’ guff. Just honesty - something along the lines of ‘I’ve loved it, done loads that I wasn’t able to do while playing and spend time with family’. I thought that revealed real honesty -not trying to make out he’s the worlds most obsessed football man. Good signs. I really hope this works out successfully for all parties!

I agree he came across brilliantly, I particularly like the emphasis he placed on the importance of strong interpersonal relationships at all levels and treating people with respect etc. You can see the guy has strong values. In fact the only thing he said that I didn't like, was he used the phrase 'I'm all in' at least twice. 😬 #wilderflashbacks

The Woodgate appointment remains a concern
Why? The amount of people whinging about this on forums and Twitter embarrasses our fan base.

The bloke was arguably the best defender of his generation, possibly the best reader of the game in his position this country has ever produced.

He’s first team coach, not manager. It’s an absolute master stroke having someone of his ability at his peak on Carricks coaching team. He absolutely will improve players.

People need to give their head a shake and learn to differentiate between being part of a coaching team and the top man making decisions. Woody may not be a number 1, but is an asset working with the players.

Exactly plus he was following Pullis a complete dinosaur.

He had good intentions ideas he just couldn’t convert pullis turgid team into a free flowing side.

What evidence is there of him being an asset?

He's had 3 jobs as a coach/manager, the players have underperformed in all of those jobs.

Maybe he is a really good coach, but there's no more proof of that than there is proof that he's not.

There's absolutely no available proof that it's an "absolute master stroke" to appoint somebody who ultimately participated in failure at 3 coaching jobs he's been involved in.
So I'm not sure how you can dare tell people to give their head a shake with your opinion.

Not enough questions to Kieran. We are 21st in the league which is mainly down to him and his awful year or so in charge of transfers . The problem for YEARS has been recruitment of players
See, I disagree with that. I honestly think the summer window addressed quite a lot of issues, and we've brought in some good Championship level players who are massively under performing.

The biggest problem, as we all know, is the midfield - losing Tav and not replacing him is the worst business we have done since Bamford went to Leeds.

We have the nucleus of a good squad, certainly not a bottom 4 one, but that's where we are. I think this season may be one of consolidation but looking further ahead with 3-4 key signings (especially midfield) integrating more academy players, there certainly - hopefully - seems to be a slightly more positive feel about the club and where we are headed.

Now, over to you Mr Carrick and let's see your turd polishing skills.......😉

To be fair to Bausor, ive been in his company at a Boro supporters event and he struck me as a nice fella, had good craic and wanted the best for Boro and was very enthusiastic. I can only speak as i find.
Thats something i know to be correct, everything else on here about him is all fabricated gossip.
Mate of mine today called him an absolute cu*t!
I asked why and he said he went to buy a car from the company he works for, upon my friend asking how much he was wanting to pay for Porche Cayan Bauser replied with ' I don't care the clubs paying for it, I don't have to pay for it' Then when he asked him what specs he wanted he replied with 'Ask my assistants '
Left my friend with a dim view of the man and his whole demeanour was hideous. He said he didn't even come back for the car after that either!

I dare? Jesus wept.
Because I’m fed up with all the negativity from a % of our fan base who are never happy. I honestly do not know what they/you expect? We’re not in the habit of installing proven world class football revolutionary’s at the moment. Who would you have liked to see as first team coach?

My proof is the fact professional footballers have openly said he has improved them as a player, so that in itself is more proof that he is a good coach than he’s not, where has anyone said he’s poor? Widely accepted he was thrown in at the deep end at Boro. Not sure how you can critique his credentials apart from that, when it was incidentally a completely different role to the one now.

Additionally, the fact he was a world class reader of the game who in any event, would suggest he has something to teach championship players.
So some people absolutely do need to give their heads a shake when they’re slagging off someone who could have the ability to improve us, just because he didnt get it right as a number 1, when Gibson is trying to build a sustainable club that doesn’t run at a constant loss.

Who's said this?

He was thrown in at the deep end here, but given he's only had 3 seasons in senior football at a coaching level, you've got to use the 2 managerial seasons to critique him.

Not many players improved from Pulis leaving to Woodgate taking over, though some were played more, plenty regressed.
Could maybe argue Lewis Wing got better, I guess. That season was the high point of his individual career.

I've already made my peace with him coming back after Carrick's comment that they're still looking for an assistant, and I hope that it does work out for Woodgate this time around, but there's nothing unjustified about people being concerned about the return of who was statistically our 2nd worst ever full-time manager, even if it is as part of the backroom staff.

Ben Gibson said it. Mates? Maybe. But still something to go on, aside from his obvious footballing abilities.
The local press said he was too honest and as usual his own words went from refreshing honesty to a sign of weakness with our fans. He won’t have that to deal with. He brought on Spence and Coulson, both were seen as positives at the time.
He did decent at Bournemouth, suggesting he learned from his Boro experience. But all this is irrelevant because he’s not a number 1 now so I don’t think it’s justified being concerned about it. I think it’s really positive and he’ll have a much better understanding of his role than a lot of older people due to his experiences.
Again, who would you have liked as first team coach who’s better in that role?

Transfers are often seen as black/white success/fail, but a lot depends on the team/manager at the time... how we're playing, what style we're playing etc...

Look at Dijksteel and Bola - both signed as highly rated, we were all happy with the signings. They were terrible, no confidence, Bola farmed out on loan Dijksteel nowhere near the team etc... But also, so were the team. Change of manager, change of style, change of fortunes - they've been a mainstay of the team ever since, and I'm not saying that they're our best players or undroppable but no-one can deny they haven't more than played their part over the last 2 years and will need a decent replacement if/when they leave. I'm also pretty sure they will be remembered fondly when that time comes.

I dare say the same will be true of McGree/Lenihan/Forss/etc... if and when we get a team that is functioning and firing - that part is up to the manager. I didn't see many people complaining about these signings when we made them.

The biggest transfer blunder we have made recently is not replacing Tav, that is what has cost us
