World Cup Final Clash

Really interesting to read the comments of Luton fans on finding their away game on Sat 17th Dec has been switched to Sunday 18th December and 12 noon - meaning they will have a struggle getting back to watch the World Cup Final.
We all know this is an appalling World Cup for all sorts of reasons. But regardless of whether England are in the final should there be league fixtures on World Cup Final day?

If the competition is being played simultaneously I don’t think you should take into consideration of a competition being played elsewhere

Surely no other games should be within hours of the World Cup final or even on the same day

Why not? Six nations matches and premiership matches often get played on the same day.
World Cup final is probably the biggest event in world sport, surely it deserves its own day. Even if other games are on and they come close to clashing attendances will be well down anyway

It’s a bit of a sham event this year to be fair. And if a tournament is running in parallel then that’s the risk. Other Sports manage

Apologies I read the email the wrong way around it was actually from Millwall fans complaining that they would struggle to get back from visiting Luton in time for the final.
It is a valid gripe I think. Imagine if Boro had been re scheduled to play on the day of the World Cup Final - it is appalling really. Obviously it is not the worst crime in the World Cup, not by a long way but even so this should not be happening.

Very true, but from an attendance point any games played within a few hours will likely be playing to an empty ground especially if England were involved in the final

I agree a daft idea to move the game to the Sunday but if Millwall fans are intent on watching the WC Final they can choose to dive into any number of pubs on the way back along the Thameslink line to enjoy watching France v Brazil.

There’s a great sports bar above London Bridge station. Mind, if they get there they might as well head home

Couldnt care less about international football so it wouldnt affect me
But what about fans that do care? Imagine if this was 1966. What if England got to a World Cup final? If it was Boro in this position is it right that you might have to choose between club and country as a fan?

Yeah, as I've mentioned before it happens in other sports. And I imagine in football in other countries
