LEE CATTERMOLE

This can't be the same Lee Cattermole who used to play for us is it? I ask because he just re-joined us recently as the Under 18's coach and there's no way someone brought in to do that would go from there to Manager of the first team, sorry Head Coach, in a couple of months. I mean that would be just crazy wouldn't it? Even crazier than the Woodgate appointment. It must be someone else with the same name or have I just slipped through a crack into an alternative universe?

Steven Gerrard went the same route..

he's the joint favourite at Sky :D
that's preposterous isn't it?

Edwards in from 15 to 4 is probably the one to watch

On his sale to Wigan…
“I just felt that once [Steve] McClaren had gone I wasn't playing as many games. It was like I'd hit a standstill. The new gaffer [Gareth Southgate] took over and suddenly I was in and out of the team. I haven't got a bad word to say about him. He was the best player I've ever played with, a great leader and a model professional and he sent me a nice letter when I left. But he preferred other players to me, which can happen, and I wanted to play more regularly. I'm happier now because I'm playing for someone who wants me." It has been a bittersweet week but it is safe to say the highs will outweigh the lows throughout the rest of Lee Cattermole's career.

On the subject of Cattermole, I read on here somewhere last week that he's extremely highly regarded/rated around the club in terms of coaching etc.

Can anyone elaborate? I can't find what was said.

Think it’s more of an indication the bookies haven’t got a clue who the next manager will be.

If it is Cattermole, I think I’ll officially give up on this club.

Might have been from this

The club are said to be happy with the quartet currently taking care of first-team affairs, with Lee Cattermole earning praise from many inside Rockliffe. The former academy graduate is currently the under-18's manager and has impressed since being handed the role earlier in the year.

His coaching standards are said to match the kind of standards he set during his playing days, with many within the club particularly impressed this week with how he's moved up to working with the senior players, earning their respect in the manner that he has been getting his points across.

While not believed to be ready yet, there were even suggestions that his work this week has put him in the thinking as a serious contender to be a future Boro manager in his own right sometime in the future.

I don't actually mind if we are planning for the future and he is seen as someone to take over at some point but surely it is too early

Think that was in the gazette.

My take on it, having spoken to a few of the current younger age group academy coaches and an ex academy player who came through the same time as Cattermole but didn't make it, he is held in such high regard from his playing days due to his attitude more than anything and its that the the club rate highly.

The player I spoke to still tells stories of how at u18 or reserve level matches Cattermole would get the hairdryer out on teammates much more senior than himself demanding they raise their standards.

Yea that was it mate, thanks (y)

Probably the gazette knowing we wouldn't get any of our targets and buttering us up with cattermole

Potentially he's the only candidate who fits the new model?

I would have assumed that the DoF model would result in some level of collaboration with team management on targets/signings - if this isn't the case, and the DoF will literally have complete control over incomings and outgoings with no input from the manager, I can't imagine many would be willing to work under those conditions?
