Wilder sacked

Very frustrating. His previous achievements show he's obvs a v good coach, but his ambition and stubbornness have cost both him and the club.

I think that’s a good summary.
His record is a good one.
Recently he seemed to be focussing externally on the problems - not the right signings, players not doing their jobs.
Whilst he had a point good leaders focus in what the’ve got and just get their head’s down.

After his ramblings after the coventry game you could see he had lost it. Didnt think it would come so soon. All is staff gone also.

Maybe that's why gibbo save some pennies during summer, knew there was a payoff on the horizon.

Seriously though, wish it had worked out but it did seem as if the players weren't playing for him, and his continuous slating and blaming of players was never going to create harmony.

A real shame and I wish him all the best. However, he clearly hasn’t being happy since the summer when he obviously felt let down in the window. He’s lost the chairman and the dressing room, not a good place to be.
Can’t help feeling the club is at a pivotal point in its recent history, a massive few weeks ahead…..

Everything Sheff U fans told us has came true - there'll be good times, but once he's lost 'it', it'll never come back and it will turn sour - but it's all unravelled far faster than I think any of us thought.

Completely the right decision though. We've been dire for ages, he's become increasingly spiky in his interviews, and it just hasn't felt right for a good while.

It was probably inevitable, but can't help thinking this was a massive missed opportunity. It hasn't felt like his heart has been in it for a while (looks can be deceiving I know) and there was seemingly a breakdown between Wilder and Gibson and (I think) Wilder and the players. Things had to change and I am glad we have made the move quickly.
Wilder hammered the nail into his own coffin really with his behaviour whilst he was linked with the Burnley job - coupled with him publically slating the players following the home defeat to Hull.

I said at the time that he was playing a dangerous game, and you can count on one hand the amount of good performances we've produced since then. The players haven't been playing for him for some time in my opinion.

That interview was a disgrace on Saturday and his repeated need to throw players under the bus rather than admit any culpability didn't demonstrate any commitment to the team.

That said, I'm still a bit surprised at the timing, but cant say I'm too bothered. It clearly wasn't working.

I’m shocked. Say what you want about Gibson but it’s really unusual for him to give the boot until it’s really become untenable, or a significantly better option is available.

I wonder if there’s been some form of bust up, or if it’s just down to performances on the pitch.
I think its more a case of trying to save this season. There's plenty of games left for someone to come in give us a chance now. Wilder clearly wasn't working and I think his style relies on confidence and motivation, which it looks like the players have completely lost faith in.

It seems we have a pattern with mangers with experience under Gibson, they come in have little money to spend have initial success for a few months and then things go awry or like Strachan and Monk they have a big budget to spend but things never improve despite the outlay.

I have no idea which way we will turn next and what to expect but when you have managers with the combined track record of Mowbray, Pulis, Warnock and Wilder unable to take us forward the question does arise of are there fundamental problems within the club that are the cause of our malaise, because, to my mind, a series of proven managers can't all be rubbish.

He has gone based on results not rumours and I hope the next manager in charge doesn't have to deal with the distraction of having to continually pour water on speculation that has little foundation.

Getting the next manager right is massive for the future of the club.

Make or break for Gibson now

Questions already asked, he may well be in the process of playing his final move at the club

Seems like slim pickings for a replacement. Dyche no chance. I can't think of anyone tried & tested who we're gonna get. Gonna have to get lucky with a Karanka-esque newbie.

Shame - the start of the Wilder era was so promising and positive.
