Has wilder said why he dropped Giles and Jones?

Yes rest

Be interesting how we line up on Wednesday

I honestly don’t think he’d have dared play that side at home.

He didn't say a rest - it was tactical to make us 'nice and strong and solid'. Really poor decision for me. I joked to my daughter at HT maybe the tactic was to be so bad 1st half we'd lull them into a false sense of security and then unleash the proper team 2nd half. But it seems that was the tactic.

"We thought that the right way to go about it was come here and be nice and strong and solid and get a foothold in the game. Especially with our current away record, we needed to do something knowing that after 60 minutes, if we needed to take the game away from the opposition, we had those two to come on.

"The thing is, they are wingers. Let’s not forget about that. They’re really, unbelievably forward-thinking players and our away record is not that good. So I thought if we could get ahead in the game and then they’re coming on, or if we had to chase it which we were, we had two players there that can help us out.

So we were going to defend for 60 mins and hope we are still in it towards the end, knowing we can't defend for s&&t? Get's paid a lot of money for tactics/strategies like that?

I was / am a Wilder fan. BUT, he is sounding more and more barmy.

It’s the classic “end of days” scenario you see with lots of managers… dropping your best players, playing players out of position… just scrambling around for something / ANYTHING to work

It’s amazing how quickly a manager under pressure loses sight of what his best XI is

I mean the team is clearly lacking confidence. But if the manager is lacking the confidence to play our most attacking players then that hardly sends the right message.

Why not play them as wingers then?

He also hinted that there was maybe another reason and that he wasn’t going to disclose it to the reporter. Then mentioned that not everything is transparent… this was on BBC Tees

Yes the fans don’t know everything

I heard that as well.

According to some I.T.K he only ever plays 1 "system" and never changes personnel because he has something against them??
Hes fell out with them obviously and is going to play Scott and Bausor in the back four next match!
:ROFLMAO:

Regarding the rest i thought he said he’d taken them out of the firing line

as they hadn’t been performing but I might be getting mixed up with other comments in bbc tees.

I mean the idea to make the team more solid is a good one. If players have confidence in their back line it's easier to try something attacking as you aren't scared that any loss of possession will result in a goal. But I think Giles is decent and should not have been sacrificed to keep the formation. Jones - perhaps he needs a kick up the **** but I certainly wouldn't single him out as no one is playing well.

Confidence is so important to Wilders team. Look at sheff utd. The crowd disappears and they sink like a stone. A confident player plays one touch football, a confident player chooses a forward pass rather than a sideways one, a confident player takes his man on instead of a sideways pass.
