Higgy undr the cosh

2 points dropped there.. only 5 points away from automatic promotion! even the last two games could have sorted us losing 4-3 away at Fulham and drawing 0-0 at home to Brighton.

Enjoyed that. The story about Juninho and Rav arguing and Rav's translater and Emerson having to translate what they were saying to Higgy is brilliant.

Regarding Karanka, I'm undecided on whether it was a case of Karanka's paranoia getting the better of him, or whether Higgy did overstep the line that day and was being too pally with Blackburn's staff.

It gives you just another insight anyway into what an intense character Karanka is, and how passionate he was.
I'm still bitter over that game as it was my Son's first Boro game. Higgy was laughing and joking when Karanka and Leo we're having a go...that's what annoyed Karanka. He should have held his hands up and apologised in his office after the game not telling the manager to "F" off and slamming the door behind him. Nevermind saying "I've been here 20 years"...I loved Higgy as a player but him and Downing are really bitter about Karanka...be nice to hear a different voice for a change...Leo would be a good interview

Initially you can see that Higgy was fuming and was ranting at the linesman.

Was it after Karanka had grabbed the fourth official that Higgy was seen joking with their staff?

Karanka went ape **** and when he was moved away/calmed down-ish.. Hignett was building bridges/apologising/laughing with the Blackburn bench at the expense of Karanka.

I get it, Karanka was off with Hignett and he felt closer to his mates on the Blackburn bench. Disappointed and shocked at us conceding but he wasn’t in the same zone as everyone else.. he was more concerned with having a laugh with his mate(s) on the Blackburn bench than fighting our corner.

Not good then. Maybe wait until after the game has finished at least.

Doesn’t sound like he would have lasted anyway, clash of personalities. Thinking the 40 minute meetings were over the top and saying he’d rather lose 4-3 than try and nick a point.

The 9 months at the boro I’m guessing did him some good at least with him saying he put Karanka like sessions on at Hartlepool. I did think that him and coops were on to a good thing at Pools.. but maybe that would have reached its natural conclusion.

It would be interesting to find out who else was in contention for the number 2 position along with Hignett & Agnew.

Steve Round was at Man Utd

Gareth Southgate was England U21 manager

Neil Maddison was new into BBC Tees

Gaizka Mendieta was still living in the area..

Mark Proctor first team coach under Mowbray

Listened to this last night and generally enjoyed it but there’s bits of embellishment going on IMO. Rav didn’t wear a Cellnet vest under his Boro shirt for any of his first six goals, for example. That came a lot further down the line.

I do find these podcasts interesting but that sense that a lot of it is just embellished for the after dinner circuit sort of spoils it a bit IMO. I think the Karanka stuff, about wanting to punch him and the club thinking he had punched him and whatnot, it doesn’t really seem to sit right. I don’t expect him to reveal precisely what happened but on the other hand he’s slaughtering someone who isn’t there to defend himself. I don’t really like that.

Yeah, most stories even ones your mates tell you down the pub end up getting embellished somewhat. The stories on on the cosh are definitely exaggerated for the show, still funny but I’d take them with a pinch of salt.

Karanka Spanish defender 3 inches taller, 3 years younger and with an explosive temper beats a cheeky scouser with a dodgy hip i'm afraid.. all this I was going to punch him, thinking of punching him, wished i'd have punched him smells a bit like shyt his kecks.. notice how no one fought his corner?

I love Hignett but I think he dropped a bollokc against Blackburn, I saw it close up and was pished off.. the management team clearly felt much more strongly about it.

We should have went up that season and it was probably my favourite season since the european cup final. Last season was canny mind.. hopefully we can recapture that WARNOCK SPIRIT!!

Gascoigne was obviously in need of psychiatric assessment and treatment, why did none of the clubs help him rather than just pander to his madness?
I do remember him having a stint in the Priory during his time here but I'm assuming he was being treated for alcohol dependency.

How are people still coming to this kind of conclusion after all the evidence out there?

Nah. Let’s hear Grant Leadbitter and Adam Clayton and Ben Gibson on Undr the Cosh before we make our minds up about Karanka. Downing and Higgy are so bitter about it.
